    3. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Newspaper Abstracts webiste Date: Fri, 03 Nov 2000 21:06:13 -0600 From: Mary Saggio <sagg@execpc.com> Reply-To: sagg@execpc.com Organization: ExecPC To: WIPEPIN-admin@rootsweb.com ============================ Newspaper Abstracts - where we are finding our ancestors in the news! Over the years many records regarding our ancestors were lost or destroyed in fires, floods and other natural disasters. Newspapers contain much information that may not be found elsewhere such as births, marriages, deaths, court notices, land sales, tax notices, businesses, etc. They hold many glimpses of information in their community news and provide us with many fascinating details about the lives of our ancestors from the businesses they frequented to the hardships and triumphs they endured while building a new life in a new land. Newspaper abstracts came online October 1999 and since that time has grown to over 2,800 pages of data all of which has been contributed by volunteers. This site contains abstracts, extracts and links to newspaper articles across the United States, Ireland and Canada published prior to 1923. More volunteers are also needed in all geographic areas - no submissions are too small or too large! Visit us at: http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/ to see how we are finding our ancestors in the news! *****

    3. Hi, Found some new links on Cindi's List for language translations. Under the heading "Foreign Language Translations~Genealogy". Genealogical word lists. They are links to a resource guide at FamilySearch, though I haven't figured out how to get to them through that sight. Hope they help someone. Peggy :) Go to this sight first then link from it. http://www.cyndislist.com/language.htm Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly! :)

    1. [WIPEPIN] SERENE Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of George G. SERENE or George's father (it is difficult to tell since the writing is "George G. SERENE of Father") which was taken in Pepin, Wisconsin at the C.H. Schlueter Studio. In addition to George's name someone has also written the name "Mrs. Sauile SERENE" though the first name is very difficult to read. The photograph was likely taken in the 1880's and may be a memorial photograph given out after a death in memory of the deceased. I know there was SERENE family in the Pepin area of Wisconsin, however, I don't find any family researchers listing Wisconsin as their area of interest. I'm hoping we can locate family and return the photograph. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    3. I want to thank you all for all of the VERY positive responses. Many of the mail list administrators have stated it is all right to continue to post the reminders I am choosing not too. I did not solely join the county mail lists to place a weekly reminder on them. I felt I could contribute to others research not only by having a gathering place (weekly chat), but I have also answered many questions for many different researchers on the various county mail lists. I was hoping to help others. Should anyone need information on the Wisconsin Genealogy weekly chat-I have this information posted on the Waupaca County Website at the following address http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwaupac/index.htm. I will will continue to post chat reminders on the Waupaca County mail list, WauShaOcon Mail List and Wisconsin Mail List. Hope you all break through those brick walls and find those lost ancestors-have a great week! 2. Paula Vaughan
    3. I guess I didn't feel once a week email would unset anyone and that it would let the new people to the lists know of the weekly genealogy chat. So this will be the last notice of the weekly chats. I have repeated the instructions below and feel if anyone is interested in the weekly chat can print this out and refer to it for information. Hope to see you there Sunday night and happy hunting! Here are step by step instructions- 1-Go to the site http://huntsville.about.com/citiestowns/southeastus/huntsville/mpchat.htm 2-Click on Log on to chat in the upper left area of the screen. This takes you to another screen. 3-At this screen type in your name or a name you are going to use in the chat room in the space next to Nick name. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TYPE ANYTHING ELSE IN ANY OF THE OTHER SPACES. Once you have typed in your name, click on OK, connect in the lower left. 4-You are in the chat room. Type your message in the lower left space where it says Type here and then hit enter. A few helpful hints. There is a list on the right side of the screen of all the people who are in the room. To enlarge the screen for easier reading click on the float button in the upper right hand corner. To enlarge the font, also for easier reading, in the space where you type your message type *chat fontsize 14, this will enlarge the font size. 1. [WIPEPIN] Waubeek Cemetery
    2. I am looking for the burial place of Dolly Phelps Belden and her parents Daniel or David Phelps and Sara Smith Phelps. I know some of the family was in Waubeek township at one time so I was just wondering if anyone might be able to help me. Daniel or David (I have seen both names on documents) Phelps was listed as the county treasurer on the 1880 Pepin County Census. I would also be interested in knowing if there are any Belden's in the cemetery. Helen

The SHSW library in Madison has over 4 million genealogical items. Learn different research techniques, new sources and what's different at the SHSW library. They have one of the largest collections of North American history (including Canada). 3. Just a friendly weekly reminder of the Wisconsin Genealogy Chat Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. EST (Adjust for your time zone) We have been having a great group, so stop in and see if you can connect with someone else researching one of your lines. There have been a few questions about the chat so I will post the information here for those of you interested in stopping in and are new to chat rooms. 1- Go to http://huntsville.about.com/citiestowns/southeastus/huntsville/mpchat.htm 2- Click on "log on to chat" 3- In the Nick Name space- type the name you want to show in the chat room. Most choose something short and some put the state appreviation after the name, examples DebWI, JeanIL, RedWA, etc. You do not need a password or need to fill out anything else on this page. Once you type in your name click on OK, Connect lower left. 4- You have entered the chat room. You will type your messages in the space in lower left of screen where it says Type here. Type your message and hit enter. A couple helpful hints. To make the screen bigger and without advertisements click on the float button in the upper right hand corner. To enlarge the type - in the message space type *chat fontsize 14, this will enlarge the type font for easier reading. Hope this helps and hope to see some new names in the chat Sunday.
