    1. Re: [WIPEPIN] Re: Pepin, Pepin County, Wisconsin
    2. John Kelley and Florence Pepin were probably attracted because her sister Flavia, married to Stephen Taylor/Tawya-Etienne Tanguis, and family had already arrived by 1850. The question is then moved back to why the Taylors came. Most of the French Canadians out of Isle la Motte and Grand Isle, VT, didn't come until after the Civil War. My husband also descends from John and Florence (Pepin) Kelley. To the best of my knowledge, the county was named for an early French explorer of the region, derivatively. The lake (or wide place in the Mississippi) was named Pepin; then the county was named for the lake. Virginia

The reason is that my wife's g-g-grandfather, John Kelley was married to Florence PEPIN who was born in Canada. They lived in Grand Isle, Vermont in the 1850's & 60's, but moved to Pepin County, WI some time right after the Civil War with most of their children - many of who were adults at this time. The parents and most of their children died in Pepin or surrounding counties. I've been wondering what or WHO attracted them to go to this place.

Surnames: Eide Teigen Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BFC.2ACE/310 Message Board Post: I am looking for information on my paternal grandparents, Albert (Ingebrigt) Eide and Emma Teigen Eide, both born in Norway in 1875. After coming to America, they were married in Eau Claire in 1897 and lived there until about 1901. From about 1901 to 1920, they lived in Durand where they had four sons: Benjamin(1898-1913), Roy (1903-1951), Noble(1910-1985), and John (1913-1979). Roy was my father. Albert had two sisters married to August Wedlund and K. J. Hillestad, all of whom probably spent most of their lives in Eau Claire. Emma had one sister, married to John Lee of Eau Claire. Abert's father's name is believed to be Nels, and Emma's father's name is believed to be Rasmus. It is not known if either set of parents came to America. Any information or clues would be appreciated.

Thanks so much for the information. I think I have a photo of Henry. Do you want it? I may even have a photo of his wife. I will look into something my great-aunt Frances Sarah Meixner (daughter of Frank Meixner and Mary Gertrude Brunner) said about cousins, in Quebec or Montreal I think. They may be the children of Sylvia LaFerne. Frank is the older brother of Henry. I have quite a bit of information about him as he is my great-grandfather. His oldest daughter Gertrude Mary Meixner is my grandmother. I also tracked down some of the children of John L. Meixner, Henry's brother, this year. Let me know what you are interested in and I can mail it to you (email would take too long). Thanks so much! Adrienne Karyadi ekaryadi@earthlink.net

Surnames: Faast Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BFC.2ACE/209.2 Message Board Post: Perhaps it is Lima. The Lima Catholic church has been in two counties. I cannot remember for sure which two....I believe it is Pepin and Buffalo. The county line changed in the early 1900's ( if I remember my dates correctly.) If you look at a hand written Luna and a handwritten Lima you will find they are very similar. The Lima Catholic church was also German Catholic. I have history on the church that I can look at if you think this may be it. I am currently doing a transcription project for a web site http://www.usgennet.org/usa/wi/county/dunn/ and http://www.usgennet.org/usa/wi/county/pepin/ . The project is a history of the church including pictures, settlement of the German peoples in the area and early parishners. Good luck in your search!!
