I don't have any information on a lumber camp. I do know Edward purchase 80 acres of land @ $1.25 an acre from the government (BLM records/patent) This was in Section 20, Township 23 Range 14. Also, my records show that Maria married someone called Raymond Fenner 11 July 1869 at Pepin. I descend through Rebecca's second husband Robert Henry. Her third was Henry H. Scovill, not Schofield. Contact me off-list if you want more data on this family at shirleyadw@earthlink.net. But if you find out any more about a lumber camp I'd like to know. My info tells me he was a farmer - might be both, of course. Shirley Williams

We have just found them within the last 5 years. My husband's g-grandfather was said to have owned a lumber camp in Pepin county and we haven't been able to find where it might have been located. Hi Pepin county family historians. While browsing Ebay I saw a few Pepin Co. items I'd want if the family names on them were mine, but they are not. The first was described: "This is a Souvenir from 1906, the Burke public School, District No. 3, Pepin Co., Wisc. Cora J. Hurlburt Teacher. The students' names include Bradshaw, Denison, Hoyt, Thompson, Goodrich, Kirk, Stuart, Buchanan. The school board was Thompson, Fish, and Steller." And there was a picture of it at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2100489639 The auction ended with no bidders, but I have contacted the seller, who still has the item to sell, at her asking price of $5 plus postage. She also had, offered for $10: "a large die-cut card that measures 9 by 7 inches. This beautiful die-cut is labelled: With best wishes of your teacher Linna McCain Pepin Wis., June 24 1904." There were no students' or board members names on this item. I imagine she will sell that item for the asking price, too. If interested, email me and I will put you in touch with the seller (and get out of the middle). I think these things should go to descendants interested in their history. The Durand Courier or Wedge, depending upon which year has been around sine before 1900. University of Wisconsin- Stout in Menomonie has a death index, and all the copies are on micofilm. Kevin Therry is the administrator of the Historical Archives there. I do not have his email address, but you can search on UW-Stout, under Library. He has helped many others with copies of the obituaries, etc. The Meixners are related to so many of the Austrians who came to Pepin Co., which is on my wifes side the radles. Another cemetery, they may be buried at would be the Lima Church, in Pepin Co. also. greg lampman

I am not sure how long it has been in existence, but at least the last 50 years that I remember. Other papers in the area are the Eau Claire Leader Telegram. A lot of people in the area get that also. There are a couple of funeral homes in Durand that might be of assistance on any cemetery inquires - they would be either Rhiel or Goodrich funeral homes. You should be able to find references to these at www.qwestdex.com. The undertaker you mentioned does not sound familiar. They might have been from Minneapolis. There are still Meixners in the area, as it is a name that I have heard before. If you check surrounding towns like Arkansaw, Pepin or Nelson; you may find relatives.
