Hello all! Been kind of quiet on the Wynne/Wynne side for a good while because I've been chasing other surnames of ours. Everything has gone quiet well. For those of you interested in the Southern Wynne/Wynn line, this may be of interest. My husband's direct ancestor is Richmond Williamson Wynn, son of Green Wynn & Hannah Tyus. Richmond & wife, Mary T Richardson, had a daughter, Margaret Elizabeth (Maggie) Wynn. Maggie married Josiah F. Scarborough either 3 or 8 Nov 1849 in Monroe, Ouachita Parish, LA. I've seen it both ways & think it likely the first date is when they got their license as Ancestry.com has the 8 Nov date listed. At any rate, it's been in the back of my mind for a number of years to try to determine what happened to ol' Maggie & the Scarborough connection. Just hadn't gotten a round tuit. Well, now I know what happened to her! She & Josiah are on the 1850 Jackson Parish census (aged 18 and 25 respectively). Household 141/145 (image 19 of 79 @ Ancestry.com's online census images) & spelled Scarbourgh. I know this is them because in the house with them are Maggie's brothers, Columbus Green Wynn & Robert A (spelled Winn). Also there are E W Ponder, wife & 3 children and I have no idea how they fit in. In 132/135 are Irvin (Irwin) Scarbourgh, wife Frances & children. Have seen that these are Josiah's parents but have no definite proof at this time. In 1860 Josiah, aged 35, is found in Natchitoches Parish, LA. Enumerated 25 Sep 1860 Household 992/992 with children Mary F 9, Robert M 7, Annie 5 & Sarah G 8. Irwin & Frances Scarborough are in 991/991 & there are other apparent siblings close by. Now Maggie is nowhere to be found - will get to that in a bit. Josiah is found in household 57/57 Couchatta Chute Ward 6, Natchitoches Parish, LA on the 1870 census (Image 219 of 475). He's 45 with 2nd wife Lettitia 28 (have seen her maiden name was Sibley) and children Robert 18, Anna 16, Sarah 12, Maggie 4, and Drew 1. This didn't fit with the dod that I had on Maggie, but she didn't show up in 1860. So I doubled back and looked @ Josiah's family again. His supposed mother, Frances, was said to be buried in Bethel Cemetery in Natchitoches Parish. Found the cemetery online: http://www.rootsweb.com/~lanatchi/obethcm.htm Would you believe, Maggie is the oldest known burial with a dod of "April 3, 1860; Aged 29 yrs, 6 mos, 25 days; w/o Josiah F. Scarborough". There's even a picture of her headstone. I'm just now going to save it & play w/it a bit to see if I can get everything clear, but wanted to let you all know of my "discovery". And, best of all, while being starting out in LA in the NE part of the state about 3 1/2 hours away; she's buried only about 1 1/2 hours away. You don't know how many times we have passed within only about 4 miles of her burial and been completely unaware. Heading up there soon! Take care all! Lisa
