I am trying to decode a cryptic passage from a letter from Lyman Draper to Mary Lee (Floyd) Winn Walton. She is the sister of Charles Floyd of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. She married John Withers Winn, and her sister Elizabeth married Thomas Minor Winn, both sons of James Winn and Hannah Withers. The letter dated 10/5/1872 to Lyman Draper states: "Your letter wishing information about Col. John Winn has been received, and in answer I can give you no information of the said Col. Winn than has already been stated. You had best write Gen. Hebert of Louisiana who married Co. Winn's granddaughter-- My Husband's name was John Withers Winn, his brother's name was James. Mrs. Vaughn is dead she lived on the coast above New Orleans. I do not know in what parish." Gen. Paul Octave Hebert married Cora Wills Vaughn on 8/2/1842. She died died on 8/3/1861. (Paul Hebert also served as Gov. of Louisiana.) Who are Cora Wills Vaughn's parents? According to the above reference, her mother would have been a Winn... Regards, Alex Luken
