Rootsweb also has Archives and you can save a jpeg of Tombstones so easily in the archives, I did several last night for Georgia Genweb, I have a photo of Richard Winn's house, but never saw the portrait of the photo Randy shared with us. The more places we save the information, the more likely the information is too survive. When I see how those houses are burning down in California at the moment, you just hope they scanned in their family photos and sent CDs to family and friends. Randy- thanks again for sharing. Gaila
Good point, before I left for the Great Race this summer I kept having dreams we would have a house fire while I was gone. We went out and bought a fireproof safe largest they had at Home depot [200.00] and put all my genealogy "can't replace" items in there.... then we got a exterior hard drive that you just plug in and copied my whole C drive on my computer so not to loose anything and put it in the safe too. But my larger items I couldn't put in the safe [like my seventh ggfather's 1710 rifle, all my books] so it went in the trunk of my car that was left in the driveway in my backyard that is security fenced [so if house burned maybe car wouldn't?] ..... I would hope that everyone would have a fire proof safe to put things in like we did [passports birth certificates etc.]. Don't forget about floods! We had 18' of water in our basement during Isabel---not much by some peoples standards--some had 6' in their living rooms, but enough to damage some of our "things". Fortunately I was able to save many family pictures. I never thought we'd have a drain pipe back up from the river into the basement, but it did! I'm having copies of all of the important pictures made and sending them to my 3 daughters.
