This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FgWBAEB/703 Message Board Post: Gen. Richard Winn, son of Minor Winn, and brother of Col. John Winn and Minor Winn II (or III?) founded Winnsboro, SC, and fought in Revolutionary War. Gen. Richard Winn wrote his war memoirs. Richard did move to Tennessee after the war and died there. Several books about the Winns, parts of which are online. Check the message boards and do searches for Richard Winn Winnsboro. I have all kinds of material about them. Minor, sometimes described as unprincipled and frolicking, was my direct ancestor.
My frolicking cousin, I found Richard Winn Academy in Winnsburough (a pre high school private school)-- see http://www.richardwinn.org/ but there is no documentation on the school. Do you know if it is named after gramps? Do they perhaps have some memorabilia that might be of interest to his decendants?
