Does anyone know where or have directions to the Greystone House or Rockhill located in Fauquier County VA. This house was supposed to be built by Minor Winn whose wife was Margarett O'Connor. Does anyone have any pictures of it? I've googled it & have had no luck.
Greystone "Old Homes & Families of Fauquier Co. VA" W.P.A. Records. Research by Mrs. Carter Foster, The Plains, VA, April 10, 1936. p. 137-138. At Rockhill, located 3.4 miles east of the The Plains, VA on Route #15, thence 1/2 mile N on private road. It is thought that the small house that Minor Winn Sr. built in 1775 was part of the larger house. At the end of the larger house joining the kitchen is the stone meat house and it is thought that this is part of the first small house built by Minor Winn Sr. Minor Winn Jr. built the larger house named Greystone date 1807. And the date of October 7, 1807 can be read plainly on a stone high up on the side of the building. Col. Richard Henry Lee leased to Minor Winn Sr. 228 a 1764 Minor Winn Sr. to Minor Winn Jr. ( by Will) 1778. Sources of information: Mr. & Mrs. Harris Field, The Plains, VA. ( probably info was given abt.1836) Deanna Ames ----- Original Message ----- From: Darren Jerome <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, March 19, 2006 9:41 PM Subject: [WINN] Greystone House Fauquier VA > Does anyone know where or have directions to the Greystone House or Rockhill located in Fauquier County VA.
