    3. Hi, I can't help responding to this. This is, in my opinion, a fictional family. There is no proof that the John Winn recorded as a headright in Westmoreland Co. in 1657, and who appears in only three other Westmoreland records in 1669-71, ever married Elizabeth Minor. This John was almost certainly not born as early as 1627. No record shows him connected to any family at all. The alleged and often-cited marriage was a speculation made to 'explain' another guess -- that the well-doc Minor Winn was the son of John Winn. [See W. Avery Miner, Desc. of John Minor (1983). Read the source notes (last page). Miner is usually given as the source for this marr. info but he clearly got it from a "Mary Ann Connolly" -- who in fact donated a copy of Miner's book to the LDS Library -- in undoc group sheets from the old Wynne Family & Kinsmen Assn. The reader is referred to Denis Wynn for info. Other early sources cite the above explanation.] Similarly with the alleged sons of this marriage. There is no doc that ties any of them to either John or Elizabeth. They are just men named Winn/Wynne who appear in early Va. records. Finding no parents for any of them, they have been assigned by careless writers to John & Eliz. It really is time to get rid of this myth and start trying to actually locate the parents of these men. If you have traced your line back to any of them, please consider doing so. Whoever their parents were, they were not John Winn & Eliz. Minor. John was at least 60 years old when Eliz.'s father, John Minor, named her in his will as still "Elizabeth Minor" in 1698. Given the ages of her older brothers, she was prob. still a minor (no pun) in 1698. This May-December alleged marriage is made further unlikely because John Minor was a wealthy, prominent man whereas there is not even any evidence that John Winn ever owned anything. Most of the men claimed as sons to John Winn seem to have started life with some property or means, but it could not have come from John. The Winn-Minor marriage myth has lasted because there has been no other apparent explanation for the name 'Minor' appearing later. But the Minor family was a fairly successful one, both in Eng. and in Va. There must other possible parents for the Minor Winn in 1700's Va. Keep searching, folks. 3. Thanks, Miles, for the input - I need all the help I can get! Now the question has changed - do you show any Winn/Wynn familes in Prince George Co VA of the time frame to have fathered (or grandfathered) a daughter (or granddaughter) born cir 1723-1728 (I have seen her birth listed as 1723 and I have seen it listed as 1728. Since she named one of her sons Stith I feel that it's likely she was related in some way to the Stith family. Do you have anybody listed that might be a lead - possible parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, uncles, whatevers, family pets (well I guess you can omit the family pets - that would be asking for a bit much!). Thanks! Barb (All cuz's please answer - not just Miles!) ----- Original Message ----- From: Myles Johnson To: WINN-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, July 25, 2003 11:03 AM Subject: Re: [WINN] Descendants of John Winn Hi, I can't help responding to this.
