    3. Hi Brian, Sorry about my late response to your request for comments. I'll respond by commenting on various parts of your message. John Winn did not, in my opinion based on research in county records, marry Elizabeth Minor. This is a speculation I have tried to trace back and I think the originator was a Maaud E. Wood, a careless "genealogist" from Phila. Pa., who plainly says in one of her reports that she is making a guess about this and about Richard being a son of this John=Eliz. marriage. She added a couple other 'Winns' to the family, as well. There are absolutely no records that doc. any children for this, in my opeinon, fabricated marriage. W. Avery Miner is the usually cited source of this fabrication and he states in his "sources" that he got the info from WFKA's collecton of undocumented accounts ---in other words, probably from "sources" repeating Wood's speculation. W.W. Smith is sometime also given as a source but his correspondence with Wood proves he got this idea from her. Drop John Winn and start this line with the Richard Winn below. No one, to my knowledge, has proven an ancestry for this Richard but he is a primary Va. Wynne/Winn ancestor. All his descendants should be focussing on finding his ancestry. He either was an immigrant for was within two generations of having a family in Wales or England. >....................... 5 [5] Richard * Winn, Sr. 1670 - 1716 >.............................. +[6] Sarah Unknown 1678 - 1707 >.............................. 6 [7] Richard * Winn, Jr. 1701 - 1748 >.................................... +[8] Phoebe * Wilkes 1705 - 1731 >................................... 7 [9] John Joseph * Winn, Sr. 1729 - >1781 >......................................... +[10] Susannah * Epes Irby 1730 - >1795 >.................................... 8 [11] John Joseph * Winn, Jr. 1759 - >1838 > > > > Also, someone needs to research and write a genealogy for this man. I think the only ones now are in some articles which don't really provide as much info or discussion as is needed. He is the ancestor of a whole lot of Wynne/Winns.

    3. Myles, thanks for reminding us of the various facts here. Do you think there is any way that the Richard Winn b. 1670 (or '72) could have been the father of Minor Winn ? Or perhaps an uncle or elder brother ? The fact that this group of Winn's clearly spell their name identically, and emanate from places Minor Winn probably passed through, makes me feel like we are getting *warm.* I know this sounds ridiculous, but I have a sensation of "peace" when thinking of that Richard Winn as being my Richard's grandfather, or namesake/closely-related-kin of some sort. Lastly, do you know of anyone who is already on this Richard Winn's trail, even if it is just a scant reference on another forum ?? Many Thanks, Jonathan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Myles Johnson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, February 22, 2006 12:12 PM Subject: Re: [WINN] calling Miles and all Welsh Wynn-Winn experts (again) > Hi Brian, > Sorry about my late response to your request for comments.
