Thomas Jefferson, the President, died on July 4, 1826 which was the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which he drafted. Coincidentally, John Adams, a lifelong friend of Jefferson and another author of the Declaration of Independence, died the same day. Unlike Adams, Jefferson died owing huge debts. The State of Virginia was trying to raise a lottery to help him pay off his debts but that never happened. I would think his will would be more involved and include mention of Monticello. He was also supposed to have freed the Hemmings family (5 blacks) in his will. His property was all sold, included 130 slaves (not mentioned here either) to pay some of his debts. This will doesn't seem to jive.
