    1. [WINN] Francis Marion
    2. Dear Wynne/Winn friends. While I don't have any data on this Wynne family, I do know something about Francis Marion which might be helpful. I had to learn this to be promoted from the 3rd grade in South Carolina. I also had to learn some other SC historic trivia which I have totally forgotten. But Francis stuck, I think you will understand why when you read the next paragraph. Francis Marion was a Revolutionary hero from the SC low country. He was a Robin Hood type character who harrassed the British with a number of raids. He had been raised in the swampy area north of Charleston (now known as the Francis Marion National Forest) which he used as a hiding place for his small band of rebels. The British forces sent to find him got hopelessly confused in the swamp and never caught him, and he became known as the 'Swamp Fox'. I swear that I remember all of this from the 3rd grade, well over 50 years ago. It is unlikely that much was known about him outside South Carolina which leads me to suggest that Francis Marion Wynn must have been connected to the SC branch of the Wynns. Earl Earl
