Hi, I am new to your list and descend from a Richard Winn who lived in Hanover County between 1769 and 1784 before moving to Louisa County, Virginia. Although I suppose he descends from an earlier Richard Winn who was living in Hanover County during the 1730s and who married Phebe Pledger, is there any direct evidence that the Richard and John Winn who were involved in a series of land transactions there during that time are actually the Richard and John Winn who were born to Richard and Sarah Winn of Middlesex County about 1700? Apparently at different times between 1655 and 1675, a John, Thomas, William, and Mary Winn/Gwynn had been brought into New Kent County as headrights as noted in Cavaliers and Pioneers. Thanks, Lance
Headright claims can be very misleading. For a better understanding of them, read Daphne Gentry's notes on the Library of Virginia's site: http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/local/va4_headrights.htm Ann ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lance Bretsnyder" <lancebret@mindspring.com> To: <WINN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 19, 2003 11:28 PM Subject: [WINN] Winn of Hanover County, Virginia, and Middlesex County, Virginia > Apparently at different times between 1655 and 1675, a John, Thomas, William, and Mary >Winn/Gwynn had been brought into New Kent County > as headrights as noted in Cavaliers and Pioneers.
