    1. [WINN] Fishin' the Mississippi Winns
    2. I am in the midst of reorganizing my files--yet again. I have a copy of a letter dated 1967 from Anna Cartlidge to a W. A. Barrett of Painted Post NY regarding Thomas Minor Winn and the Floyd/Winn family of Adams Co. MS. Is anyone acquainted with the Barretts in NY in connection with the Winn family? In the letter, states that Thomas Minor Winn and Elizabeth Floyd Winn had at least three children: Caroline b. 1798 in LA, Charles and Minter. She states that Elizabeth survived Thomas by many years. Thomas died in 1817 in Adams Co. Any nibbles? Alex

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FgWBAEB/644 Message Board Post: I'm finding the northern Winns to be a bit elusive. Nellie Diane Winn (12 Jul 1864 - 20 Mar 1931)married George Albert Sanborn in Hartland VT, and they lived in Rochester NH. Her parents were Samuel Winn (born in Rowe, MA) and Sarah P. Smith (born in Hinsdale NH)...appears they may have lived in Jacksonville Vt. His parents were Samuel Winn and Diana L. Williams. Can't seem to find his family prior to that...is he the same family as Edward Winn in Woburn? Anyone have any connections here?

Although born in TN, he lived several years in KS and married twice and was widowed twice while there. His first marrage was to Maria DOUGHERTY, Paola, KS in 1862. Maria died the same year; that is,1862. The second marriage was to Myra Abbott in 1862. Abbott, Myra (*1843 - 1868) - female d. 1868 spouse: Winn,Sr., James M. (1841 - 1925) - m. 1862 in Ft. Scott, Kansas He enlisted in the Union Army Cavalry there. Does anyone know if either of those marriages produced any children and if so, did their mother's family in each case, raise them? It occurred to me that perhaps his wives died in childbirth since in those years it was not uncommon. James Marion WINN went on to live in IL and he married my great-grandmother, Nancy Malinda Jane ETHERIDGE ,with whom he had several children, including my grandfather, Sidney Gilford WINN. They lived in Taylorville, Christian Co,IL.I'll be deeply grateful for any knowledge you can share with me. Thank you, in advance.

    1. [WINN] Claude WINN - UK- Help please.
    2. Sue Hazledine
    3. I have just received a copy of my great grandmother's marriage certificate. She was Clara WINN, b. 19 Aug 1887, married Thomas John HORN 1st February 1910 at Oxford Register Office (England). There is no occupation given for her and her address at the time is given as Woodeaton House, Woodeaton, Oxon. Clara's father is named as Claude WINN, deceased, farmer. My problem is that I can find no trace of Claude WINN. I have a copy of the 1881 Census CD for the UK and I cannot find him on it anywhere; I was wondering whether any other WINN researchers had come across him. My great uncle has said that this WINN family came from Hertfordshire but I've yet to find the link. Thank you very much for any help. Sue (in Scotland).

    1. [WINN] Winns of MS and LA prior to 1840
    2. Does anyone have a good base of information on WINNs in MS and LA prior to 1840? I am looking for the following: Thomas Winn, son of John WINN and Mary Lee FLOYD, b. between 1809 and 1818 in Adams Co., MS. According to information provided by WALTON descendant from Mary Lee's second marriage, Thomas Winn died at age 25, which would have him die between 1834 and 1843, if this is correct. There is a Thomas Winn, single 30-40 on the 1840 Adams Co. census. John T. WINN, in 1839 purchased a land warrant from Mary Lee Floyd Winn Walton for $640, along with a John G. Berry. The acknowledgement on the warrant is signed from Ouachula, LA on June 5, 1840 by J. G. Berry, agent for John T. Winn. Mary Lee's husband, John Withers Winn, was the son of James Winn and Hannah Withers. Unconfirmed Children of Thomas Minor Winn and Elizabeth Floyd Minard Winn b. 1790-1817 KY or MS Caroline Winn b. 1790-1817 KY or MS Thanks! Alex
