    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: SFM50 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.winn/861.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I found an M M Winn in Co F of the 1st Reg. MS Light Artillery who was listed as "absent without leave" on Dec 20 1863. On one muster roll it said he went awol at Enterprise, MS, a town between Oxford and New Albany. The Agnew diary said Madison died at Pricesville in Dec 1863. Priceville is a community outside of Tupelo. It seems certain to me that M M Winn of Co. F is our Madison Winn. 1. [WINN] Elizabeth Winn d/o John Winn & Mary Bowles
    2. Brenda Brown
    3. Hello...I am still looking for proof of marriage for Elizabeth Winn (b 1776) and Hardin Davis (b 1771). I contacted Virginia Historical Society but their copy of family bible pages for John Winn & Mary Bowles does not include marriages or deaths...only births. And, I've seen Ancell's notes on Fluvanna which mentions the bible and the marriage...but I haven't seen it or any other proof. So, if anyone out there has something I'd love to see it as another branch on my family tree has Hardin Davis married to Mary Winn who everyone else says married Twyman Wayt. Thanks Brenda Brown

You might also check www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk for birth, marriage and death recorda after 1837. Deeds for this period haven't been on line, I had to travel to York and do a manual (and unsuccessful)search. Maybe you've already done these, but I hope this is helpful. It is the same today as it was in 1992. My Father who is still living (Johnnie Washington Winn, Jr.)goes to church out there every Sunday. And on holidays when I am visiting my dad, we visit St. John. A lot of the older family members, including John H. Winn is buried in the St. John Colony Cemetary. I was able to trace quite a few back to the cemetary. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Not Winn though. I have Winn connected with my Johnsons & cannot figure it out at all- too common of a name I suppose. But, in another surname family I am involved with in VA, we were able to narrow down an African American/bi-ratial relative's family. DNA is a match. He is a cousin. It took looking at early VA plantations & all the census records/locations that could narrow it all down Black vs Mulatto descriptions & other clues.
