    3. Hi Andie and any others who might swallow the appended Wynn genealogy: The Wynn genealogy appended by Joe Breeze and taken from the several sources listed is not valid. The error is that Owen Wynne did NOT come to Va. and did NOT have any children who did. Any and all Wynn/Wynne/Winn/Gwynns who came to Va were NOT descendants of Sir John Wynne. The parentage and ancestry of Hugh Gwynn, who DID come to Va., has never been proved, tho he undoubtedly was a part of the large extended group of Wynns in Wales of that time. Research efforts should be directed toward finding his ancestry. Va. patent records clearly show he was the patentee of the property that became known as Gwynn's Island. That said, the Gerrard family info given is very interesting and the first I have seen on her. Many thanks for that. But please don't perpetuate the myth about Owen Wynne coming to Va. 3. Cuz Connie, sent me a copy of the print on the A.R. Wynne Papers, 1818-1866, it is not the papers themselves but a description of the papers.. it says: A.R. Wynne Papers 1818-1866, Sumner County, Tennessee These papers document the sales and purchase of merchandise, land, and slaves. Colonel A.R. Wynne resided at Castalian Springs, near the Cumberland River, in north central Tennessee. Some early letters are from William Kent who was a trader and merchant traveling through Norfolk, Virginia and points west, to his wife Betsy in Doxbury, Massachusetts. Letters to Wynne bear the imprint of such diverse locales as Natchez, New Orleans, Nashville, Columbus, and Cincinnati, and points in Texas, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and other states. Materials on slavery include prices, market conditions, demand and availability of terms and financial instruments. The settlement of promissory notes is also documented. Land purchases were noted in North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa. Stokely Vinson is a major correspondent in many of these issues. 1489 Introductory Materials 2 frames. 3. Dear Cuz's, I am back in pocket, and all is well. [Great Race of Texas was fantastic!!!! So much fun, but BOY was it HARD!!!, learned a lot didn't get lost did well in the race, fun fun fun.. and one of the Cuz's came over and met me at the hotel, sure wish we had had more time, but maybe she will make it to the Butler Ohio research reunion in the fall. There was 81 teams in the Race, Out of that 81, 17 were rookies, Of the 17, Mom and I had 8 better than we were and 8 worse than we were, so I don't think we did bad!!!] Hugs Cuz Becky List Admin. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FgWBAEB/664 Message Board Post: Hi... In researching the Hale's in my family...I found an Elizabeth Hale, born 1797 in SC, living with her daughter MARGARET WINN. This was in the 1880 Cumberland, TN Census. I don't know if this is my GGGGrandmother Elizabeth or not. She was a Crow before she married ? Hale. Her Son, William Hale married Martha Hawk, (GGGrandparents). They had John Wesley, who married Hattie Catharine Gilley, (GGrandparents.) They had Alonzo JLee Hale, who married Mattie Pearl Driver, (Grandparents). They had among others, my Mother, Lonnie Pearl Hale. Does anyone have an Elizabeth Hale in their ancestory? Born around 1800, give or take? Thanks, Debbie

    1. [WINN] About the WINN-L List
    2. You're absolutely right about the high calibre...in fact, most other "lists" can't live up to this one at all. I have belonged to several as I'm sure all of you have and I've only "stuck" with about half of them. Even those don't hold a candle to this one. With this high quality site I was able to document 23 generations of my maternal family and when I started I only knew that the people who could have told me anything at all had already died. Needless to say I was discouraged before I had even started. I've been forever grateful to this site and the warm-hearted and expert people who frequent it. "Que VIVA la WINN-List forever!" <GRIN> Andie Harris

    3. Dear Carolyn, I try to remind people when they do put something out here that is not genealogy based to place the "Off Topic" note in the subject line so that you can delete to your hearts content. The only exception to that is my note to the group [Out of pocket] so the list is aware of when the list is unattended.
