Dear Cuz's, This is to discuss the Ancestry.com census deal..... Pro's and Con's, but I love it, even with all the problems, because I can get copies of census's on line, with out having to go outside the house to do the research. Now.. what this e-mail is about... Things I find at Ancestry that may help you? 1. Once you a person in a "search", after clicking on the link, if you do not find that person on that page.. don't freak out... go a page forward or a page backwards and you will find them... BUT also remember to change the page number on your census cover sheet because they weren't on the page they originally said! 2. When you pull up a census in Ancestry.com you will find one of two types of viewing programs. A. Example #1 http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ttg13/ancestryadjust1.html You can make the print larger to read it, or smaller to read it... or move it around by using the appropriate buttons. Now note each time you hit one of those buttons, it refreshes the page and you may have to move it around to see it again. The one part that most do not know how to do, with this example, is how to print it, where you can actually read it. where the WHOLE thang shows... =) You do that with the "SIZE" button, [see above image] When you CLICK on that "Size" option, a menu opens. Click on FRAME SIZE On right hand side "CUSTOM SIZE" is where you will adjust it the most. I change the WIDTH to be 900 and the HEIGHT to 1400 just to start. Then click OK... It will now open the viewing area to match that width and height. You will now need to re-adjust the size of the image again to fit in the screen at the largest, so you can read it and move it around to fit in that frame... If you need the "Frame" to be bigger then adjust it bigger or smaller the same way. Once you get it to the size you want [Remember if you left a big black edge you will use up your black ink when you print it!! Adjust where the least amount of the black edge shows and don't waste your ink!] Take your mouse and RIGHT click in the Body of the picture A menu opens Choose Print Image and it will print that image just as big as you made it!!! Now I will point out... if your window is wider than it is tall.... you need to rotate the image so it prints in "Landscape" or sideways on the paper... To do that Right Click in the body of the image Choose ROTATE Image Choose Rotate 90 degrees and it will turn it one time to the right.etc. Then print it. If you want to save that image on your hard drive, at that size, then you Right Click in the image body and you choose SAVE IMAGE AS and it will save it to your hard drive. B. The 2nd Example of the Ancestry Census. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ttg13/ancestryadjust2.html The other way that Ancestry shows a census images is like the above example image.... and it is different to use it.... If you want to move to the next page just use the Arrows in the forward or backwards motion to move to the one before or the one after this one. Size to read: I usually use the 50% or 75 % to get a good view of the image and then use the "Pan" or move around gizzmo to move around to see what I want. that way I don't strain my eyes... =) If you just can't see it clearly no matter the size and your trying to read a small area use the "Little area Bigger" deal they call magnify.. it is a small magnifier that you can pop up a small area in a bigger size. Now to the printing.... That is where you do the options to make it how you want. CLICK "PRINT OPTIONS" button A Print window opens... CLICK "PROPERTIES" [tab up top] LEFT Click on the PAGE SETUP Choose PAPER SIZE that you are going to print on Choose Portrait or Landscape [regular or sideways] Choose "PRINTING TYPE" choose "FIT TO PAGE PRINTING" so that it expands to fit on your piece of paper at the largest size Choose how many copies CLICK OK And it will print it to fit your page... you don't have to mess with the actual image being the right size and the frame size being right or anything!! Much nicer. Ok hope that helps!! Hugs Cuz B ttg-inc@comcast.net http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ttg13/

Brian, Yes, this Winn family fits into my family chart. Edward Winn is my 8th Great Grandfather. His son Increase is my 7th Great Grandfather. Then my line follows from his daughter Mary Winn who married Nathaniel Wyman. Sarah Wyman married Ezekiel Walker Mary Walker married Richard Hopkins The rest of my line follows to my mother. I don't have a lot of information about the Woburn Winn's except what I found on the internet. As I'm REALLY in the Christmas spirit (will be decorating today - I must have a high fever), thought I'd share the following with all our Wynne/Wynn/Winn cousins: According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male & female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to every historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, every single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl. We should've known. Only women, while pregnant, would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost. Happy Thanksgiving & Merry Christmas Lisa

It appears that the parents of Elizabeth Winn were Richard and Ann Winn. Prior to acquiring his land in Louisa Co. in 1786, Richard owned land in Hanover Co., Va. His name appears in the vestry book of St. Paul's Parish of Hanover Co. back to 1770, and then there is a gap of several decades. Having browed the internet and various entries of Hanover Co. concerning members of the Winn family, I am wondering if this Richard Winn was the grandson of the Richard Winn who was exchanging lands with his brother John Winn in Hanover Co. during the 1730s. John Harris, by the way, was born in 1766 in Prince Edward Co. on Vaughn's Creek. His grandfather, David Harris of Hanover Co, had received a patent to the land (which was then in Amelia Co. ) in 1740 as appears in the series Cavaliers and Pioneers. That David Harris had married the widow named Jane Landy Richardson. John's other grandfather was John Harris of Hanover Co. who had married Mary Tinsley. *First thanks to Cicely for offerring to scan a picture of Minor Winn's house to the maillist. I don't really understand Minor Winn I; Minor Winn II; Minor Winn III. Anyway I just found my info on the house in Fauquier Co. VA. The info came from the book, "Fauquier County, Virginia, Early Fauquier Houses" p. 237. The dates document that the Minor Winn who built the house in Fauquier Co. VA was the one who was married to Margaret Conner. The dates, also, document that Minor and Margaret Conner Winn did not live in Fauquier Co. VA until 1764. GREYSTONE (or ROCKHILL) Route 626, near The Plains In 1764 Colonel Richard Henry Lee leased to Minor Winn 228 acres. The place was left to Minor Winn, Jr., in 1776, in 1814 William Hampton was the owner and William Rust in 1831. John Carter and Alexander Hutchison owned it and in 1857 Samuel Field became the owner. It still belongs to his grandchildren, the Burgesses. *(I don't have the copyright date so this info may not be correct in 2003) Minor Winn, one of the trustees of the town of Salem, built a small stone house on the place in 1775 and in 1807 Minor Winn, Jr., built a larger stone house, with the date October 7, 1807, on a stone in the side of the house. The stones were quarried of just two sizes and are fitted like bricks. There are some old stone buildings and a lovely view from the house. Deanna
