Our Charles was married to a Mary Ann. He was a carpenter or house joiner. I've found a birth certificate for Charles Rostyn Winn. I'm hoping to find out some more info from that certificate to be able to find Richard. Many thanks Kirsten Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Charles was born 26.06.1825 in Kirkby Wharfe north of Leeds. Richard and Hannah were married in Kirkby Wharfe on 30.09.1807 In a later census (1851) I have found Charles Winn married to Anne with a daughter Hannah living in Bradford. It states that he was born in Ulleskelf (next to Krkby Wharfe) and that he was a joiner. I'm not sure this is your Charles Winn, unless he remarried? What was your Charles Winn's occupation? If Erich Ernst Winn had a religious affiliation in Germany, there are several ways to go further. Was he Lutheran or Catholic? The church records for parishes in Lehe are probably very accessible through LDS, or may even be on line. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. That was my first clue years ago that Lene's last maiden last name might be Goth. Then the SS-confirmed it. I've traced her brother Frank back a few gens and made contact w/a lady who's kin to Franks wife Sohie. But I never saw that part with the German address. I need to invest in a good magnifying glass and a modern German dictionary. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I did have the address of the other son. "Technician/Technical" kind of make sense. My grandpa's pre-Army job is listed as Mechanical Draftsman on his DC papers. I don't speak German, kind of an impediment to German research. I feel bad because on my Mom's side, her folks have been traced back to Moses (pretty much) but on Dad's I have so little (and I carry that name). I'm looking for German Winns. My grandfather (Erich) immigrated to the U.S. in 1920's (thru Ellis Island) by himself at age 19 and settled in NY State (Jefferson Co). All I know about him was that he was from Lehe, Bremerhaven, Germany. His SS-5 tells me that his parents were Helene (Goth) and Ernst Winn. I'm estimating their birth year at about 1880. I know that they had at least one other son, Ernst, but there were probably more. Any other German Winns out there? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. To the best of my knowledge, my grandpa was a German Immigrant, which makes me a 2nd generation American on my Winn side. I'm looking for a German Winn thread in this Forum but don't see any... maybe I should start one. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
