    3. Paul, we corresponded once a couple years ago. My gggrandfather was Miles Winn, sometimes known as Miles Adams, Miles Winn Adams. There are some old partially burned records in King William courthouse, reflecting some land transfers of the Winns in King William. I still have not checked on Gloucester and Sarah very much, just wondering how the conclusion was reached that Sarah was Pamunkey? thanks. My line from them were William, Ferdinand, Ferdinand, and my grandfather Ottoway Peyton. Would love to hear if you know of Sarah and Gloucester. 3. My husband's grandfather was Henry Marion WINN, born 30 Jan 1865 in either Louisiana or Tennessee -1910 census of Little River Co., AR and 1920 census of Bossier Parish, LA has him as born in Louisiana but 1930 census of Bossier Parish, LA has Tennessee as his birthplace). He married 15 May 1898 in Bossier Parish, LA to Miss Mary Frances Juretta Patterson. Children: William Henry, Macil. Elizabeth Barbara, Bertha Mae and Treba Elnora Winn. Any clues to his parents or siblings. A cousin says that he MAY have a half brother named Wesley.....Henry died 4 April 1934 at Plain Dealing, Bossier Parish, LA and is buried at Chalybeate Springs Cemetery near the Louisiana/Arkansas state line. ANY information appreciated. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Winn, Wynn, Scarborough Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FgWBAEB/717.1 Message Board Post: Rachel - I don't know if this will help or not, but I toss it out for what it's worth. My husband's GGGaunt, Margaret Elizabeth (Maggie) Wynn (9 Sep 1830 - 3 Apr 1860) married Josiah F. Scarborough 8 Nov 1840 in Monroe, Ouachita Parish, LA. Her family lived in Richland Parish near Crew Lake/Start. Aunt Maggie is buried at the Old Bethel Cemetery at Hagewood (which is halfway between Robeline & Natchitoches). Might be a connection there somehow. At any rate, I've looked some for you & here's what I've found (this is assuming that Ruth's family was in Natchitoches Parish for a good while prior to her birth): There's an Irvin H. Winn listed as living in Robeline on the 1920 Natchitoches Parish census (Page 1a ED#47 image 1 of 10). He's the only white Winn listed in Robeline; the other was (I think) a black female. Says he was born in LA , his father was born in NC, and his mother was born in SC. He's in 11/15 aged 61 (b 1858) with wife Mollie aged 56 living in 11/14 the house of Leroy E Burton 31 and wife Ethel 25 (possibly the daughter of Irvin H & Mollie). Interestingly, it says that Irvin owns his house & Leroy just rents. The Louisiana Statewide Death Index, 1900-49 @ Ancestry.com shows that Irvin H Winn died 23 Jun 1923 at the age of 65 in Natchitoches Parish, LA Checking the LA Census, 1810-90 for Natchitoches Parish there are none with the spelling of Wynn (ran that just in case), but there are Winn spellings. http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?f3=&f2=winn&f4=natchitoches&f7=&sx=f2&db=lacen&ti=0 There are 3 Winns listed in 1840, 2 in 1850, 5 in 1860 & 6 in 1870. Ran quickly to the LDS site and found what I think is his family in 1880: Margaret Winn Self Widow Female W 55 SC Farmer NC SC Irwin Winn Son Single Male W 21 LA Works in Farm SC SC Elizabeth Winn SDau Single Female W 26 LA SC SC Ella Winn Dau Single Female W 19 LA SC SC Nella Winn Dau - Female W 16 LA SC SC Nanni Winn Dau Single Female W 13 LA SC SC Census place: 6th Ward, Natchitoches Parish, LA page number 635C So I'd guess that Margaret (at least the 2nd wife) married Irwin & Elizabeth's father sometime between 1855 and 1858. I'd check the 1860 census for Margaret & Elizabeth. Looked at cemeteries that said they were located near Robeline & I've found Winns buried in Rocky Mount, but Irvin H (Irving H) is buried at Central Cemetery in Robeline: http://www.rootsweb.com/~lanatchi/central.htm WINN, Irving H. ( Feb 12, 1860 / June 23, 1923 ) There are a number of other Winns also buried there, among them Richard M Winn (4 May 1813 - 2 Apr 1880). Says it's a double marker with Margaret A Winn, so this is likely Irvin's father since Margaret shows as a widow on the previously mentioned 1880 census. Have you gotten in touch with anyone at the Natchitoches Parish site? Their surname list shows 3 researchers for Winn from 1861 forward. Hope this has been helpful. Lisa

The dining room table with clutter was spread with pedigree charts and with letters which said: "Too bad about the data for which you wrote. It sank in a storm on an ill-fated boat." Stacks of old copies of wills and the such were proof that my work had become much too much! Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop from work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and of such was my lot that presents and goodies and toys I'd forgot. Had I not been so busy with grandparent's wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills. While others had bought gifts that would bring Christmas cheer, I'd spent time researching those birthdates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, a strange noise on the lawn gave me quite a fright! Away to the window I flew in a flash, tore open the drapes and yanked up the sash. When what to my nearsighted eyes should appear, but an overstuffed sleigh and eight small reindeer! Up to the housetop the reindeer they flew with a sleigh full of toys and ol' Santa Claus, too. And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof the prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. The TV antenna was no match for their horns; And look at my roof with hoof-prints adorned! As I drew in my head and bumped it on the sash, down the cold chimney fell Santa -Kee-RASH! Dear Santa had come from the roof in a wreck tracking soot on the carpet - I could just wring his neck! Spotting my face, good old Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit, you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work and filled all the stockings. (I felt like a jerk!) Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy when I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread "A genealogist!" he cried. (My face turned all red.) "Tonight I've met many like you," Santa grinned as he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amazement - the cover it read "Genealogy Lines for Which You Have Pled." "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug," he said as he gave me a great Santa hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library! A special treat I am thus able to bring to genealogy folks who can't find a thing." Now, off you go to your bed for a rest - I'll clean up the house of this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle to his team which then rose like the down of a thistle. I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family history of fun! Merry Christmas! Good Night!" ************************************** Reprinted from the Michigan Historical Magazine at the website, www.aspiring-community.com/file/genealogy. ttg-inc@comcast.net http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ttg13/
