    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: samantharwinn Surnames: Winn Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.winn/1708/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for information on my husband's family. He knows next to nothing about them. Here is what we know: His father was Raymond Gene Winn, born 12 Mar 1935 in Oklahoma (presumably, in Oklahoma). He died in 2002 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Ray married twice (Annie C. Rudd, at least one son; Dorothy Carolyn Redfearn, two sons - Daniel Madison and Matthew Ray, my husband). Ray had at least one sister in Oklahoma, probably older than him, whose name we don't know. My husband remembers going to a family reunion in Louisiana, somewhere "down close to Baton Rouge". Also, and I'm sure this comes as no surprise, my husband says he is possibly 1/16 Native American on his grandmother's side. So, Raymond Gene's mother was believed to be 1/4 or 1/2 Native American. No idea what tribe. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [WINN] John Wynn - VA 1782-1829
    2. Diana McFarlane
    3. My brick wall is John Wynn (Wynne) who had children Mary A. about 1800, Susan about 1805, Thomas J about 1811, Archibald about 1812 and Virginia Ann born 1826 all in or around Dinwiddie County. Who was the mother of these children? What I know: his estate is mentioned in the will of Jedidiah Atkinson (1833) who married Virginia. Supposedly John had an estate on Halifax Road and burials were done on that property. I have been unable to locate this property. In this will John Wynn is referred to as Capt. John Wynn. The will lists as property Interest in the Estate of Capt. J. Wynn deceased of $1000.00. In 1831 in Hustings Court, Edward Powell and Susan Wynn (administrator of John Wynn) were ordered to lay their accounts for the administration of decendents estate. Cash paid for various items for the children: Mary, Robert, Susan, Thomas, Archer. Susan Wynn married Edward Powell after the death of John. (Courtesy of Dorothy Tuttle) John died in 1829. He may have served in the War of 1812 which could explain the span of time between the birth of Archibald and Virginia. Or, Virginia could be the child of another mother, name unknown. In 1815, John Wynn is listed as having an estate along Birchin Creek, 17 miles SW of the Dinwiddie Courthouse. He is also listed as having land on the brances of Old Town Run, 13 miles NE of the Dinwiddie Courthouse. There is a second John Wynne listed as having land along Stoney Creek. I believe this John Wynne is related. His parents were Robert Wynn Sr and Lucretia Malone. Both of these families in 1815 lived in the area of Dinwiddie which was formed from Prince George County along the Stoney Creek.

It included "Charles Bridges Winn" 1808, apparently died young because no other mention of him anywhere I can find. 3. Connie, Yes, I have looked at Mourning Bearden Smith and her husband, William Smith and noticed he was from PA.  Also there is a another Smith Family that is connected to the Beardens and Winns in SC.  It is an interesting connection, and it might be traced to the Smiths in Fauquier & Loudoun Cos. VA.  I haven't tried to find out where these Smiths originated.  Court Record in Fairfield Co. SC.  Book 1, Pg. 186.  6 Sep 1794.  Jacob Bearden married Winifred Smith, daughter of Nathaniel and Mary Polly (Langston) Smith.  Witnesses Wm. Winn and M. Winn.  This William Winn is reported to be the son of Minor & Margaret Conner Winn but who is the M. Winn.  Could this M. Winn be the Minor Winn that was the the son of Wm.  & Rosa Hampton Winn?  Jacob is reported to be a descendant of Lettice Winn & John Bearden but I don't know how.   There were Nathaniel Smiths in the Smith Family of Benjamin Smith husband of Elizabeth Winn Smith (d. of Minor & Margret Conner Winn).  Benjamin Smith had a brother named Nathaniel Smith.  Could this Nathaniel Smith with a daughter named Winifred be a nephew of Benjamin Smith? 2. Ok Deanna I am getting a little closer here. There appear to be TWO Augustine Smith's who claim the same birth record. One is Augustine Warner Smith who has a death record of Dec 30, 1756 he is from Shooters Hill. The other is Augustine Smith married to Ann Marshall and has a death record for October 1781 Fauquier VA he is from Mattox Creek Westmoreland VA Anybody have anything else to separate these two??? Augustine Smith of Mattox Creek and Ann Marshall have a son Matthew who died 1781 Fauquier and he is the one who is married to Martha Winn. PHEW!!!! The death records are the only thing I see that separates these individuals and they are blended by many. Connie Cole

    3. Connie, I just can't find any documentation for a Christopher Smith as a brother of Augustine Smith of Fauquier Co. VA.  This Augustine Smith married Ann Marshall dau. of John Marshall of the Forrest in Westmoreland Co. VA and in the Will of John Marshall dated abt. April 1752, he named his dau. Ann Smith and said that Ann's inheritance was in the possession of Augustine Smith.  He, also, named his dau. Elizabeth Smith and said that Elizabeth's inheritance was in the possession of John Smith.  These Augustine Smith and John Smith are suppose to be brothers and sons of John Smith Sr.     I have seen that Augustine Warner Smith was married to Sarah Carver.  And his father was John Smith & Mary Warner. If these Augustine Smith are one and the same then there is a lot confusion.  I just don't know but there may have been 2 Augustine Smiths around Westmoreland and Fauquier or there is a lot of comfusion about their ancestry.  And I don't know which one Matthew Smith husband of Martha Winn was related. Deanna  Deanna The Smith's are confusing!!!! I have a death date for Augustine as January 25, 1770. I do not have him as father of Matthew but rather as uncle. I have: Christopher Smith John Smith(Col) 1624-1689    John Smith(Capt.) 1662-1698 m. Mary Warner (Collateral line for me) Augustine Warner Smith 1689-12/30/1756 John "Shooters Hill" Smith 1715-11/19/1771 m Mary Jaquelin (a collateral  line for my son-in-law). son Matthew died 10/25/1777 Germantown married Martha "Patsy"  Winn.
