Case is an attempt to settle accounts for the estate of John H. J. Wynn (late of Athens/Limestone County Alabama) with associated siblings: Nancy Wynn Chappell (Missouri), Margaret Wynn Gray (Dinwiddie County Virgina), Lucy A. Wynn Kirkland(Dinwiddie County Virginia), Bolling D. Wynn(Wilson County Tennessee), and Sarah "Sally" Wynn Malone Parkham (Alabama) - all children of Joshua Wynn of Dinwiddie County, VA. Lots of good information/names/dates. They attempted to find another sibling Robert H. Wynn who moved "out West" but was never heard from again. Wondering if ancestors for Robert H. Dear Cuz's, I have for the last six weeks been receiving phone calls from Lottery International, they keep saying I have won a prize in a lottery that I filled out a card for at Wal-Mart. Which I have never done. I have hung up on them after telling them not to call again. Today they called and said that they were 35 miles away with the delivery truck bringing my 2011 Mercedes Benz, a certified check for $85,000.00 and a coupon to use at Wal-Mart for $1000.00. All I needed was two forms of id and a green dot card from Wal-Mart. The Green dot card is a cash card from Wal-Mart. I asked what it was going to cost me. They said nothing. I asked where did I supposedly fill out this card for the Lottery, they said Wal-Mart. I told them I still thought it was a scam and to get lost going on to hang up. Told my husband that I may have lost us some money and a new car but I still think it is a scam. So I went to the internet and found this website that talks about the same Scam.. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/scam_alerts/winners_sweepstakes.html PLEASE DO NOT GIVE IN AN HOOK UP WITH THESE PEOPLE it is a scam and they really work hard to make it sound real. Just a heads up to save others trouble. Hugs Cuz B "Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass ... it's about caring and loving your relatives and friends while you can touch and see them, and they are still among us."
This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: stephwm1 Surnames: Winn, Wynne Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.winn/761.1.4.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The book which was mentioned earlier, Winn - Daniel & His Nine Sons, 2nd Edition, 2009, by Warner Martin Winn et al is currently out of print. Copies are available in repositories at Library of Virginia, Richmond VA, and LDS Family History Center, Salt Lake City UT. I am one of the co-authors of that book, and I'm happy to provide a brief synopsis of our findings regarding Daniel Winn as follows: Daniel Winn had four early records which date prior to his move to Lunenburg Co. VA. All four indicate Daniel was an adult living in Prince George County VA during the decade 1744-1754, before his move to Lunenburg Co. VA in c1755. One of these records was a 1752 deed in which "Daniel Winn of Prince George County, Virginia" bought land in Lunenburg. Another was a 1754 deed in which "Daniell Wynne of Prince George County, Virginia" bought a second tract in Lunenburg. The final two records were earlier deeds Daniel Winn had signed as witness in 1744 and 1750, with details as follows: In 1744, Daniel Winn & Joseph Carter witnessed a deed between William Peebles & William Adams, both of Martins Brandon Parish, Prince George Co. VA, for land in Surry County. Again in 1750, Daniel Winn and Joseph Carter witnessed a deed whereby Benjamin Jones of Martins Brandon Parish, Prince George Co. VA purchased land in Surry. Because both Daniel Winn & Joseph Carter's signatures appear togeth! er on both deeds, spaced six years apart, the first in 1744 and the second in 1750, we conclude that Daniel Winn and Joseph Carter lived geographically close -- they were neighbors. Joseph Carter's Virginia land patents describe the exact area where Carter lived, and from this we can generalize the geographical area where Daniel Winn lived during the decade between 1744 and 1754. Joseph Carter & William Peebles patented land on Powell's Creek, south of James River in Prince George County VA, and one patent describes Joseph Carter's land as "adjoining the lines of Peoples" (William Peebles). The Powell's Creek area is also geographically close to Baylie's Creek in Prince George County where Peter Wynne and Joshua Wynne, sons of Major Joshua Wynne and Mary Jones, resided. Prince George County Minute Book, 1737-1740, recorded Joseph Carter as foreman of a jury serving with Joshua Wynne and Benjamin Jones in 1738. The same minute book has record of Joseph Carter serving on another jury with Peter Wynne and William Peebles in 1739. So we can see that the Wynnes, Carters, Peebles and Jones were neighbors; but we cannot know how Daniel Winn figures in, or prov! e that he was related to Peter and Joshua Wynne. We only know that Daniel Winn also knew Joseph Carter, William Peebles, and Benjamin Jones, as evidenced by his witness to the deeds involving those parties. Regarding the Thomas Wynne who married Martha Wingfield: In 1745, Joseph Carter patented land on Sappone Creek in Prince George County adjoining Thomas Wynne (the same who married Martha). Joseph Carter never moved from his Powell Creek home to Sappone Creek, but he willed the Sappone property in his 1760 will, probated in Prince George County VA. Neither my coauthors nor myself were able to find any record of a direct tie between Thomas Wynne and Daniel Winn. Daniel Winn's records from the era he lived in Prince George County are very important for genealogists of this family. We conclude that Daniel Winn lived on the south side of James River in the vicinity of Powell's Creek in Prince George County VA, 1744-1754; that Joseph Carter and William Peebles were his neighbors; and that the latter two men were acquainted with Peter and Joshua Wynne, due to jury duty at the nearby courthouse. We conclude that all but the two youngest of Daniel Winn's ten children were born in Prince George County. It is important to note that we found no direct evidence that Daniel Winn was a son of either Peter, Joshua or Thomas Wynne. Further, it is my understanding that the Winn Surname Project administrators have examined paper trails and dna, and the groupings indicate that the dna type for Daniel Winn does not match samples collected from Group M descendants of Matthew Wynne of Greenville Co. SC, William Wynne of Tazewell Co. VA, or John Wynne w! wife Agnes of Sussex Co. VA. All three of those lineages have submitted paper trails to Winn Surname Project Administrators, and those trails have been judged to have sufficient proof of ancestry to Robert Wynne of Canterbury. With all due respect to those with differing views, it is my recommendation that Daniel Winn's parents should be left blank on ancestry charts, with Daniel shown as the earliest proven generation for this line. I apologize for the length of my reply & please note that references to the actual deed books and court minute books have been omitted here for brevity but they are referenced in our book.
