Prayers are with all the ones in Florida in the path of Wilma. Love, Linette
Hi, I would like to ask for prayers for my grandson who is a fireman in Vero Beach, Fl and cannot leave, but he will send his family north. We should pray that God will just let this thing calm or send it out into the ocean. I have not investigated the area of Ohio that your family is from and still do not know anything about the Winn family that Elizabeth came from. I have new information that she was born in 1820, Ohio. It appears that a portion of her family might have been in Indiana around the time of her marriage in 1836 and also in Racine county Wisconsin in or around Rochester. Elizabeth Winn Campbell later migrated to Nevada with 2 of her daughters, Adelia and Emma. If we can connect any of the family it would be great. William Campbell, Eliz. son died in the Cival war, Union side.

Pickaway County, 1920 census, no wife listed, but has a housekeeper Cora M. Hott. By 1930 Cora appears to be Mrs. Harvey Winn. This may be a lost family member of mine. I found in an obit, listing for a daughter Cora Winn. One World Tree does have a second wife Cora listed for Harvey Winn, b. ca. 1873/74. The first wife was Dorothy. Is this same Harvey Winn? Can you tell me anything about Cora? Thank you, Mary Anne

The book is "Cinnabar Hills - The Quicksilver Days of New Almaden" by Milton Lanyon and Laurence Bulmore, 1967, pps29 -30. Dr Winn came to work for the mine in Sep 1879 and stayed for 10 years. He was paid $400 a month and was given use of a house, horse and buggy. For that salary, he made approximately 5,000 calls per year. He worked 6 days a week, often travelling between Hacienda, Englishtown, and Spanishtown. It was normal for him to travel the winding paths in the dark and inclement weather on horseback. He treated everything from cholera and tuberculosis to severe mining injuries. He was paid out of the Miners' Fund. According to the author, he moved to Montana and started a private practice. There is no mention of his family, or the fact that he moved to San Diego at some point. It is apparent that he was very respected in these communities though. According to the author, he was very interested in photography and took some of the pictures used in the book.

Here is my Winn info, and while some dates are offered that are taken from US census records they may not be exact but are certainly more accurate than others where with person is born before they die, married before they are 10, and are 100 years older than they new born children. Hurricane Rita gave all of us in Southeast Texas a real scare, and following Katrina, didn't dare take too many chances. So like many other Sugar Landers -- we traveled north to half-way between Houston and Dallas. Turned out to be a good choice for us as Rita's route was more to the east, totally missing us. Feel the greatest sorrow for the folks there and in New Orleans. Those folks need our prayers more than ever. Thanks to everyone for yours.
