    3. Dear Cuz Barbara, Almost any thing that is in a "windows" seeable format can be copied and pasted into another "Windows" type program...[unless it is an image and it can also be copies but not always pasted into all programs as some programs don't allow images to be pasted into certain areas of their program]. So. say there is a quote or source on a web page.. you can take your mouse and highlight it, then "Ctrl C" [or right click and choose to "Copy"], go to your FTM program and Paste "Ctrl V" [or right click and choose to "Paste"] what ever you copies into FTM's Notes or into a FTM "Citation text" area in a "Source". Or you can do the same on a Windows Document, or from an e-mail etc. If you create a FTM Chart of some kind.... you can click on "EDIT" up at the top of the window and choose "Copy" or highlight all with mouse and right click and choose copy or Ctrl C and copy... then go to a e-mail, in the body where you type click your mouse there then "Paste", by Ctrl V, or right click and click Paste etc. Then the chart will be in your e-mail and you can e-mail it as part of the text and not as an attachment. Hope this helps Hugs Cuz B [email protected] http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ttg13/ "Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here we might as well dance !" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara Evans" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, April 09, 2006 5:12 PM Subject: Re: [WINN] FamilyTree Maker 2006 > I'm missing something, how do you cut and paste into notes? > Barb >

    3. No Cuz, I want to be able to go to the source and see who it sources. At the moment I can't remember why I want to do this, but there have been times. Oh, I remember. I have found where I put the WRONG source in and wanted to make sure that I didn't put this source in for others. There may be other situations which I cannot recall right now. 3. Dear Cuz Mary, Ahhh ok, got it. Now what I find great about having the listing power is you can clean up your mistakes that you made the first year you started sourcing. giggles. You know the times that you put in the same census on ten people and you made them all different by a period or a comma....=) To you who do not use the sources... I would like to give testimony that putting the stuff in the "Note" doesn't put it in the reports I use... Also then you have to read down the "Notes" to see what you have... When I first started I thought Sourcing just had to be a pain in the rear..having to put something in that silly thing for EVERYONE that it applied to...well I never! [said with a big southern flip of the brim of my big bouffant shade hat =) ] BUT reality is I still kick myself for not putting the sources in..then I kick my self for all the time I put the source title in but didn't put what the book, doc, record etc.. actually said in the Citation Text.... you know how many million of times I have had to reopen the same books till I wised up??? With the title in the source and the text in the citation box I can, in a flash get what I need. With out digging in papers and with out digging into books etc. It is wonderful!!! When I say put in a source for you newbies ... that means I put either myself, if it is something I know because I knew the person, put in Aunt Bulla Bell and city and State, if it was one of my family members, and for e-mails I put in their name and e-mail address, web site pages I put in their address, etc etc ... I don't lend much credence to the website pages unless it is a state one etc...but I use it until I can get something in actual record, index or whatever form.. or for finding other facts.. and the reason I say that about web sites, is because those web sites disappear as people move on in their lives or their web site address changes as they change the files around etc etc.. it is something that is not dependable to be found again in 10 years. No matter how documented the website is. If a website has something sourced on it I source the actual source, and put in a secondary source as the website page. Just so people get credit for work they do, that I didn't do. etc etc etc.... I can go on all day but I have to get back to this rat killing of the charts... 3. Well, would you believe my book has an error in it? The Source Usage Report is in Chapter 9, not 10. Creating a Source Usage Report: The Source Usage report includes each "master" source you have created and lists the individuals and facts associated with that source. This report helps you determine which recorded facts are supported by sources. It can be useful in keeping track of the sources you've researched and lets you compare notes with other researchers. You can choose whether to include individuals and facts for sources or only individuals. Note: If you have not assigned a master source to any facts in Family Tree Maker, the report will include the fact and the message "Not associated with any facts". 1. Clock Source Usage from the Reports button drop-down menu. A Source Usage report will be generated. 2. Click the Options button on the vertical toolbar. The Options for Source Usage Report dialog box will open. Note: You can also click Options from the Contents menu to open the Options for Source Usage Report dialog box. 3. If you want to include only individuals in the report, click Show only individuals; if you want to include individuals and the facts associated with them click Show individuals and facts. 4. Click OK to save your changes and close the dialog box. Learn something new every day. 3. Well, dang, Mary! You just caused me to learn something. Checked my book & YES you can!! 1. Click Edit Master Sources from the Edit Menu. The Master Sources dialog box will open. 2. Click a source from the list of master sources. You can use the scroll bar to move up and down the list. 3. Click Usage. The Source Usage dialog box will open. Note: You can also print a Source Usage report that shows how all of your master sources are being used. See Chapter 10 (I can tell you how to do that if you're interested) 4. When you finish viewing the information, click Close. The Source Usage dialog box will close. 5. Click Close to close the Master Sources dialog box. > [Original Message] > From: Mary Winn <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Date: 4/8/2006 5:14:49 PM > Subject: Re: [WINN] FamilyTree Maker 2006 > > Cuz B and others, can you pull up a source and see what entries it covers? > I've always wanted to be able to do that. > Regards to all > Mary Winn Anderson > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "The Thill Group, Inc." <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Saturday, April 08, 2006 5:06 PM > Subject: Re: [WINN] FamilyTree Maker 2006 > > > > Dear Cuz Lisa, > > Well back when version 9 went to 11, they crashed by data file because > > it would not allow that many sources. 3. The old way I posted to the father then highlight, right click & copy the citation page info. Go to the wife, create a new source and right click & paste to her citation page space. Repeat the same thing for each child. Then go back to the father, open the source, & repeat the procedure for the citation text. That was 2 times I had to run thru the entire procedure just to get one SINGLE source on everyone. With 06, I just enter the info on the father. Click OK. Then Ctrl+S to open his sources again & make the Copy button available. Click on the Source I want to copy, then click the Copy button, switch to the wife & click the Paste button (making sure that if I already have souces for her I tell it NO when the little screen pops up so it doesn't replace another source with the one I'm adding). Then repeat the procedure with the kids. Takes only a matter of seconds instead of the minutes it used to and I don't have to worry that I've forgotten anything. I just get happy clicking Ctrl+S Paste No, Ctrl+S Paste No, Ctrl+S Paste No!! Did I ever tell you that it doesn't take much to make me happy?? 3. Dear Cuz Lisa, Well back when version 9 went to 11, they crashed by data file because it would not allow that many sources. Version 1-9 allowed a larger amount of source titles and more source text but in Ver. 11, they reduced the source text and titles because they have made it where you can upload a image of a document and they put the extra space there. 3. My favorite thing about FTM 06 is the way you can easily copy sources from one family member to another. You can type it in on the head of house & then copy to his wife & all the children very easily. With the older version I had to copy/paste the citation page (on census citations I put ex: "Image 23 of 42 @ Ancestry.com's online census images"), and then go back & copy/past the citation text to everyone. Was a real pain & I always felt compelled to go back & double-check everyone to ensure I hadn't missed one of the kids! What I don't like is the fact that the burial location no longer shows up on the family page. I depended on that and liked being able to see if I already knew where someone was buried. Now you have to go into facts to see it. Told them about it and the guy I spoke to was supposed to pass it on for consideration in future improvements. Overall, I absolutely love 2006. And here I thought having 23 sources for my McCollough GGgrandfather was a good deal. They must not have considered Becky when determining the number of source citations to allow!! 3. Dear Cuz Barb, It might look a little cramped on the "family page" but I love the fact that they now show the birth and death dates on the main family page so it helps when I am jumping back and forth between things and don't have to open a different page to see if that child is deceased and that is why he/she is not on the census. But that is my opinion, and we all have different habits.. The other thing I don't like is now in 2006 when you go to do a source [Ctrl S] and you go to type in the name it doesn't auto pull up the last one you entered with those beginning letters.. it opts to give you the first in that order... that slows me down a bit compared to the old way... BUT they had eased the changing of the sources and they also now allow you to toggle between a document and the FTM and not have to edit the source title because you left the screen and it thought you were done... As with all things good and bad with the changes. They will all effect us differently as we all have different habits we are use to using.
