Then I had my oldest brother's DNA done (he's a direct male Winn descendant back to Thomas Winn VA/KY who patented land on Stoner's Fork of the Licking River in KY March 1784 along with his brothers Owen and George.. Then the DNA results came back and our closest link is Herb Winn whose line goes back to Robert Wynne in Canterbury, England. I really am confused.

    3. We've had your Richard Winn whose family stayed in Virginia mixed up with ours several times. There are (at least) two Richard Winns of the Revolution ... the one who died in Maury County TN is my ancestor (m. Priscilla McKinney) ... we just recently found his actual burial spot ... The grave marker bearing his name (displayed in pictures) is just a memorial that is now lost, probably stolen from the main cemetery at Columbia Tennessee. He, his wife Priscilla, and son Samuel are buried together on the 5,000 acre tract that he died on east of Columbia at a town, formerly "Blocker's Shop," now "Sawdust." Altough my Richard was born in Virginia, he settled early on in South Carolina with two brothers. He then moved to Maury County with his daugher Priscilla and son-in-law Elijah Blocker when he received a 5,000 acre tract for surveying and/or service in the Rev. (The Blockers were from Edgefield, South Carolina). We are trying to track down a General Winn, assuming he was in Virginia, where she was reportedly born, and as per family stories. I am unable to find Lydia Winn/Wynn's siblings as well. Perhaps the family did move to Tenn and the Carolinas. I was aware of Winnsboro but wasn't sure we were connected to that particular family. > Thank you again. > > ______________________________

At one time, there was a website that carried a picture of his tombstone. The site also had some genealogy data. I beliefe that his wife was Priscella McKennie. Richard was born about 1750 and died Dec. 19, 1818. I think that Winnsboro, SC was named in his honor. Somewhere, I picked up: that he was the son of Minor Winn, Jr. and Mary Margaret O'Connor. Minor Winn Jr., son of John Minor Winn, b. abt. 1660, Westmoreland, VA, married Martha Ann Byrd. John M. Winn, son of John Winn and Elizabeth Minor. John Winn, son of Owen Winn and Grace Williams. There is so much speculation about Minor Winn, and his parentage, none of General Richard's ancestry may be true. BUT, there is a General Richard Winn of Revolutionary War era buried in Muary County, TN.

Ira and wife Maria Amak are buried there. Sons Glennwood, Norman are there also. I suspect that I will also find Easton, Clyde and others. It looks like they all moved from Iowa to Burlington. Does anyone have any information about Isaac's father? I'm beginning to think he wasn't claimed as a son of the Winn's residign in KY,VA. I have seen a couple of notes where someone claimed that Col. Matt Winn and Ira were brothers. I don't know how that would be possible since Matt Winn was born in 1861 and Isaac Winn died in 1860.
