There were semingly two immigrants both names Wingfield and both prbably relaed. Many of the descendanst dropped the "g". Most Winfilds are from southern Virginia...sussex, brunswick, dinwiddie, most Wingfields are from hanover albemarle franklin etc. They were all pretty prosperous and owned many slaves..so it may be hard to track it down. try censues and slave schedules. I know there were several mixed race descendants..Peter Winfield of Brunswick christened three of his slave's children before he married..they were apparently his.
