My ggrandfather was named Alexander and he was born May 9, 1847 in Sussex County, near Petersburg. Do you have any records documenting manumission of any slaves? I have reason to believe he was either freed, or was born to a free woman. Also, he may have been biracial. Any info would be appreciated!
