I have a letter written by William Shipley Winfield (my 3-great-uncle), dated June 3, 1887, in which he says: "Samuel and Rany are in Chanute, Kansas. They have been dealing in broom corn for a number of years -- and this spring they commenced making brooms. They sent us a dozen of them, I suppose the best they could get up; they were splendid, and prized more because they came from them." Samuel Winfield is one of three sons of William Shipley Winfield. I don't know how long Samuel and Rany were in Kansas or who the children of Samuel were, but perhaps your Ida Winfield is a daughter or granddaughter. Samuel would have been born about 1845 in Ohio. I have additional information on this Winfield family if you think we're connected. Do you have other information on Ida? By the way, I don't know who "Rany" is. Might be Samuel's wife or perhaps a sibling going by a nickname. Samuel had a brother nam! ed John R. Winfield but I don't know what the middle initial stood for. There were other Winfield cousins in Kansas at the same time, but none of them had the surname "Winfield."
