The history I have says he was a free settler however my research says he was a Convict and was Transported on the vessel Chapman departing from England on 12/04/1826. Hello Bill......I have Winfields from Nottingham (I believe) in my late husbands background.John....his partner was Mary Downey(Henry)....I have one son listed (Thomas)although I know that there were at least two more.....they were born in Australia. John died 1861 and Thomas in 1926......and yes, John was also a guest of the Crown......
