There were two branches of the Winfield family (English, not Irish) in Kansas that I'm aware of. One is the family of Sarah Winfield and her husband, William Clark(e). Sarah was the daughter of John Winfield of Canfield and Hubbard, Ohio. (Trumbull and Mahoning Counties, Ohio.) They went to Kansas after the Civil War and lived in Neodesha, Wilson County, Kansas. Another group (cousins of Sarah Winfield Clark(e)), also moved to Kansas in the latter half of the 1800s. They are two sons of William Winfield, of Tipton, Indiana. I don't know the names, but they raised broom corn in Kansas. William Winfield of Tipton, Indiana, and John Winfield, of Canfield, Ohio, were brothers. I hope this might be of help to you. Happy hunting!
I'm hoping someone can help me with my Winfield line. My great great Grandfather was Frank Winfield. His death record says he was born in Germany, but something else says he was born in Canton, OH. His parents were supposedly from Germany too. Frank was born around 1848 and died Oct. 18, 1908 in Cuyahoga Co., OH. He first married Elizabeth (last name not known) and had 5 children: John, Catherine, Charles, Joseph, and Edward. Elizabeth died a few days after the birth of Edward. He later married Hattie Miller and had 5 more children: Mabel, James, Frank Jr., Walter, and Elmer. I would like to know if anyone knows of any of these Winfield's. Are they really from Germany? Who could Frank's parents be? I have been looking for this family for a few months now and have found a little bit at a time, which really isn't that much. I hope someone out there knows something that can help.
