He was born in Haverhill on Feb.8,1914 son of the late George L.Winfield Sr. and Lola (Smith) Winfield. He is survived by his son Peter S.Winfield and his wife Judith E. Winfield and four grandchildren and step-grandchildren. He was the husband of the late Emma F. (Cousins)Winfield who died in May of 2005. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery , Bradford,Mass. George was the first African-American Commander of Lorraine Post #29,VFW in Haverhill. He served in the U.S.Army from 1942 to 1945 and atained the rank of Sargeant.
