They were from some part of VA originally. Petersburg and/or Sussex. My mom says her Great-Grandmother was Jewish. This is odd for you didn't her of a white woman with a black man at all back then. My mom did say she came all the way to from VA to Philadelphia to visit them and that it was real hush hush. She also said her Grandfather looked Mixed so it could of been his mother, but she is not sure. She also said she had an Aunt Martha who would come up to visit. I know of the lineage of Charles Winfield, but Harold is missing. Also know of the Massenburgs but can't find the connection. Anythi! ng you got to assist would be so helpful. 1. [WINFIELD] Winfield Family who migrated from Mecklenburg County Va to Anson County, NC
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: daisylegs1960 Surnames: Davis, Winfield, Lee, Thrower, Freeman, Crump, Culpepper, Howell Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.winfield/300/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am a descendent of Sarah Winfield and Job Davis of Stanly County/previous Montgomery County/previous Anson County (the county changed names 3 times during their span on the property) North Carolina. Both were born in Mecklenburg County Virgina in 1773. Sarah was the Daughter of Peter Winfield and Charlotte Freeman. Charlotte was the daughter of Arthur Freeman. Her sister Jemima Freeman was the 1st wife of Peter's brother Joshua. Charlotte and Jemima's brother Henry married Elizabeth (Betty) Thrower and when Jemima passed, her widower Joshua married Betty's sister Rebecca Thrower. It gets even more confusing as Peter had a cousin also named Peter Winfield (son of William) who had a daughter named Sarah. I am looking for any information on the Anson County branch of the Winfield's and also trying to find the parents of Job Davis, Sarah Winfield's second husband. Job and her father Peter Winfield both signed the petition to separate Anson and Montgomery Counties in 1799. Peter had grants to the land along the Rocky River in the 1770's. Several families came from Mecklenburg County to this area about the same time, Allen's, Randall's, Lilly's, Vanhoose's, Lee's, Preslar's, Culpeppers, Crumps and Ingrams. And the family of Sarah's first husband, Richard Howell. Sarah and Richard had two children, Peter and Charlotte Howell. She had 4 sons with Job Davis: Edward Winfield Davis, Henry Davis, Merrit (or Marriott) Freeman Davis and James M (I believe the M stood for Monroe) Davis. Any information on the Davis or Winfield families would be much appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
