Winfield born in Arkansas (Fort Smith area) Oct 7, 1892. I know he had several brothers and one sister, the only names I have for his siblings are Clyde and Guy (brothers) and Blanche (sister), possibly a Charles (brother) as well but I'm not positive on that name. He married Grace Pamplin sometime in the late 1910's, and they moved to California shortly before WWII. He served in WWI. Any info on any of these lines would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Joanne

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2dWBAEB/125.1.1 Message Board Post: Cheryl -- What part of Kansas did your relatives live in? There were two branches of the Winfield family (English, not Irish) in Kansas that I'm aware of. One is the family of Sarah Winfield and her husband, William Clark(e). Sarah was the daughter of John Winfield of Canfield and Hubbard, Ohio. (Trumbull and Mahoning Counties, Ohio.) They went to Kansas after the Civil War and lived in Neodesha, Wilson County, Kansas. Another group (cousins of Sarah Winfield Clark(e)), also moved to Kansas in the latter half of the 1800s. They are two sons of William Winfield, of Tipton, Indiana. I don't know the names, but they raised broom corn in Kansas. William Winfield of Tipton, Indiana, and John Winfield, of Canfield, Ohio, were brothers. I hope this might be of help to you. Happy hunting!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2dWBAEB/130.1 Message Board Post: Actually, most of the Winfields and wingfield families in Virginia actually wned slaves. There were semingly two immigrants both names Wingfield and both prbably relaed. Many of the descendanst dropped the "g". Most Winfilds are from southern Virginia...sussex, brunswick, dinwiddie, most Wingfields are from hanover albemarle franklin etc. They were all pretty prosperous and owned many slaves..so it may be hard to track it down. try censues and slave schedules. I know there were several mixed race descendants..Peter Winfield of Brunswick christened three of his slave's children before he married..they were apparently his.

    2. My Winfields were originally from Virginia, but moved to Eastern Kentucky around 1790. According to the census, they did own slaves. I'd give you more information, but I'm out of town right now. Should be home in a few days and might be able to give you more detail. Let me know if you're interested. RWinfield32@aol.com

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2dWBAEB/130 Message Board Post: I am still looking for information on Alex Winfield. The family 'moved' to Ohio from Vriginia. If there are any persons named Winfield whose families owned slaves in Virginia, please contact me. I am interested in slave schedules, records of freed slaves or runaway slaves. As my Alex Winfield was born circa. 1852 I know that his parent(s) were slaves if they lived in Virginia. He was born in Ohio. Please do not be embarassed. I am simply trying to put together some history on my ancestors.
