    3. Hi All! I have just gotten some photo albums containing LOTS of Braman Family members from my Mother, who is 80 years old....most of the photos are of individuals, but they are grouped as husband and wife on opposing pages. There are numerous generations and lots of pictures. Can anyone advise me on how to determine who these people are or how to go about identifying them? Some of these photos are extremely old...anyone have an idea of when photographs were first printed? Thanks for any help or advice you can offer! Patsy

    3. Patsy, Ask and relatives still living, old friends of the family, old neighbors, (anyone old) who might know who they are. I don't know if the MCLHR has a spot, but some places will allow you to put them on display with a sheet of paper underneath for people to look at and jot down their comments. Compare with old photos of people you do know - you may be able to then at least determine which family you are looking at. A good resource for trying to pin the date the picture was taken and other clues within is called "Unlocking the Secrets in Old Photographs" by Karen Frisch-Ripley. It is in paperback and can be ordered through ancestry.com and probably most bookstores as well. 3. To paraphrase an old Radio/TV program: Those Are My Lines.....! Patsy: We've corresponded before, so you have my connection to the BRAMAN/SPOONER lines in an E-mail from last June. If you can scan the photos and send them to me, I will be happy to identify the ones that I know. I would assume that we have similar photos, as our families were close and exchanged things frequently. I can't remember where you live, or even if I have an address for you, but if you're anywhere near Tomah, Wisconsin, there are a couple of other ways to identify your photos.... Did you ever check on the reference I mentioned to you in June? The Elder John Crandall Of Rhode Island And His Descendants - by John Cortland Crandall - New Woodstock, New York 1949 - has quite a bit of data concerning our older BRAMAN and SPOONER relatives. I've done a bit of work with that book, but because I've been focusing on the more recent generations, haven't spent a lot of time on it. For some reason or other, my BRAMAN family focused on Roswell Emerson Braman and Chloe Spooner's descendants, and primarily on those who remained in close touch with Tomah! By the way, did you see the Editorial concerning Tomah in the Friday New York Times? Interesting..... It mentions the Tee Pee restaurant, and that was a theater that my grandfather, Roy Smith, built in the 1920's. It was a stable, but my grandfather and great grand uncle, Mark Johnson, turned it into a movie house during the days when they had stage shows (Wild Bill Hitchcock, Dunninger the magician, etc.) as well. He was in the theater business for many years. Perhaps that's where I got the notion! Best wishes.
