    3. One of my immigrant ancestor's neices, Julianna Mathilde Birkholz, married a August Janke 10 Aug 1899, presumably in Monroe county. This family branch had settled in the Warrens area, towards the NE corner of the county. Julianna was born 3 Apr 1877 in Kreis Kolmar, Posen, Prussia. Her family immigrated to Wisconsin about 1881, I believe, so she'd have been three at the time. My memory might be in error, but I thought there was some trivial benchmark about their wedding, like they were the first couple in the county to receive a goverment-issued marriage license, or to be married after some law took effect perhaps. In her father's obit, she is called "Mrs. Tillie Yanke". A Rev. Hanke conducted the funeral at the German Lutheran church. I presume that Hanke is not a spelling variant of Janke/Yanke, but could be wrong. I have a 1953 platt map of the county and can provide photocopies of the townships of your interest. I seem to remember a few plots of Yanke land scattered around Warrens...
