"On Tuesday night abot 9:00 Zerah Palmer, one of the oldest settlers of Monroe county died at his home in the western portion of the city after an illness extending over a period of 10 weeks. Mr. Palmer was born in Albany County N.Y. April 3,1835 On November 3, 1861 he was married to Miss Joannah Palmer in Albany County and they removed to Wisconsin in 1863. In February 1865 He enlisted in Compnay 1 of the Forty-ninth Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, and was stationed in Missouri. Confinement in the hospital unfitted him for service and he was Honorably Discharged. Three children were born to him by his 1st wife: Mary Estella now Mrs. A.D. Smith of St.Paul, MN, John W. who conducts the Palmer Pharmacy and Gertrude M., whose death occurred four years ago. He married a second time in 1896 to Mrs. Fawcett of this city(Sparta) who survives him. Mr. Palmer was a member of Lynn Post, G.A.R.and L.O. G.T., and of the Advent Christian Church. Conscientious in all dealings with his fellow men, faithful in the performance of every duty required of him, he was a highly esteemed citizen whose loss will be greatly felt by the community Funeral services were held from the Advent Church Friday morning at 10 o'clock under the direction of G.A. R., Rev. Meigs, fof Arena , officiating." (Not related hope this will help a Palmer Family researcher)
