Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4EC.2ACE/593.3.1.1 Message Board Post: In reply to your query regarding Alfred John Buss, I've been pulling some BMD certificates from the GRO to try and clarify - it doesn't help when someone is registered at birth as "Alfred John", registered at marriage as "John", and registered at death as "Alfred". All part of a great jigsaw, especially when the East Kent "Buss Area" which seems to cover the villages of Pluckley, Egerton, Smarden, Charing etc are all within walking distance and all have their share of people named "John Buss" either in full or part! My g-father Alfred (John) Buss, b. Egerton 1885, was the son of g-gfather (Alfred) John Buss, b. Pluckley 1856 and Caroline Burton b. Charing 1853. (Alfred) John was the son of g-g-gfather John Buss and Louisa (Cox?), so I guess that he would be b. circa 1830. Also saw your reference in a previous posting to a "Pluckley Horse Doctor* in your family - I've a copy of a marriage certicate dated April 27th 1855 between John Buss of Pluckley and Jane Russell of Smarden. John's father is shown as "Thomas Buss, Veterinary Surgeon" - looks like a descendant of your horse doctor? Interestingly, John signed the marriage certificate with "his mark", as illiterate, unusual for the son of a vet.
