My gr-gr-grandfather was born in 1805, and an older brother was born in 1800. Maybe the profession was passed on in the family. I agree that the names are confusing. They recycled the same names for multiple generations and as in your case, names them one thing and called them another. There must have been many, many Buss' in that area, probably all related in some way. We'll keep digging and maybe will hit paydirt some day. Thank for contacting me. Marion
