This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Capino, Nutting, Steele Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4EC.2ACE/721 Message Board Post: Subject: Thomas Capino of Rudds Mill 1876 We are searching for Thomas Capino, who filed for his civil war pension from Rudds Mill, Town of Lincoln, Monroe Co. in 1876. He is a St.Francis Abenaki Indian, b.cir 1845 in Durham Quebec Canada. His family was living in Greenville Maine USA at the time of his enlistment in the 7th Maine Infantry. The 2 charcter witnesses on his application are E.O[?]. Nutting and T.D.Steele, both of Sparta. Thomas could read and write and was probably a farmer or laborer. He was horribly wounded in the head at Fredericksburg and would have been disfigured. He was deaf in one ear and blind in one eye when he filed for pension. His pension application claims he had been in Rudds Mill since leaving the army in 1863. We would love to hear from anyone that could add anything to Thomas' story - a death date would be wonderful to locate. Anything on his witnesses, etc. etc. Anything - please help as learn more about Thomas. Perhaps someone can put us in touch with the people who flag veterans graves in that area so we could locate his grave. Nancy Lecompte Research Director for Ne-Do-Ba http://www.avcnet.org/ne-do-ba
There is a Monroe County Local History Room in Sparta. They may be able to help you. The address is: mclhr@centurytel.com. The people there are very helpful. Good luck!
