Here is an update on what I have learned about Almon Evans since my initial post. Thanks to all who have shared information with me. Almon Evans was born Oct. 11, 1850 at Poysippi, Waushara, WI, to Vernon and Mary Ann (Stevens) Evans. He married Mary E. ? prior to 1880. Almon Evans died in 1887 while returning home to Norway Ridge with his horse and buggy after hitting a rut or stump in the roadway causing him to be thrown from the vehicle. His horse returned to his home and a search party found Almon lying at the roadside, where the accident occurred, having died from a broken neck. His wife Mary E. survived him and remarried N. G. Goldsmith of Wilton, WI, in 1889. When Mary E. Evans Goldsmith died in 1904 she was buried near her first husband, Almon, in the Oak Grove Cemetery on Tomah's south side. Other children of Vernon and Mary Evans who survived infanthood were Gilbert E. Evans (1845-1903); William S. Evans (1848 - 1914) died at Tomah; Lumen Edgar Evans (1852 - 1899); and Emma Evans (1859 - pre1880?).
