On account of the large expense involved she decided not to disinter the remains and bring them here as she intended when she left. The Lewiston "Argus" of Sept. 26 contains the following notice of Mr. McFalls' death. "James McFalls a Grand Army Veteran who has been under treatment at the hospital for a month past for mountain fever, died Friday last from heart failure. He was buried Sunday with Catholic Rites and the assistance of the local G.A.R. and sons of veterans. " ( So this says he was buried in Montana) Mrs. McFalls secured affidavits from the superintendent of the hospital ,the attending physician and the undertaker to enable her to secure the insurance of $1,000 held by her husband and the pension to which she is entitled as a widow of a veteran. She furnishes us with the followin brief sketch of his life and death. Died in Lewiston, Montana , September 20(1895) of heart failure JAMES McFALLS. Deceased was born in South Bend ,Indiana, and with his parents camr to Rochester, MN , when a child. He was one of a family of 9. Three brothers and 1 sister are yet alive. He enlisted in Co. F. 9th Reg't Minn.Vols when yet a boy and served 3 1/2 years . After the war he went west to the Black Hills. He was married at Beliot,Wisconsin to Anna Callahan on January 31,1881 who with 2 children survive him." AND IN ANOTHER PART OF PAPER---Same date Nov.2,1895 Notice: The people of Tomah who have doubts or suspicions concerning the death of James MCFalls ,formerly of this place can obtain all the information they require by addressing each or all of the following persons in Lewiston,Fergus County, Montana. Dr. T.H. Monehan; Wm.M Selvidge, hospital nurse: James Reed: John B. Clark, nephew of the deceased: Rev. Father Van Der Huvel,pastor of Catholic Church ,Lewiston, Montana. Repectfully, ANNA McFALLS I am not related....and this article does not give a lotof info about family. Though it says JAMES McFALLS was a GRAND ARMY VETERAN.
