TOMAH JOURNAL TOMAH, WISCONSIN FRIDAY, SEPT. 9, 1904 From Wilton Herald. Geo. VERRIER, a young man residing at Kendall lies at his home in a precarious condition as the result of injuries sustained by jumping off passenger train No. 1, Tuesday afternoon. He had boarded the train to bid his mother good-bye and did not get off until the train had gotten a good start. He then jumped off the rear end and struck his head on a culvert, sustaining a fracture skull and other injuries. His recovery is doubtful. [ I wonder where Julia was going. It was with relief that he appears on the 1910 census records and at age 48 in 1910 is 42 considered a young man?] The 1910 census list George Verier boarder of Vincent Argt age 48 of Hancock Valley Road in Clifton township.

He had been ailing since the fire. The funeral was on Tuesday from the Catholic Church.

    3. From Genealogical Branches of Monroe County: Mariott Mason Hodge died 18 Jun 1900 at son Dwight's at Camp Douglas and buried at Oakdale with his wife who died 27 years ago. He was born state of N.Y. in 1810. Came west 52 years ago and had 4 sons and 2 daughters. ------------- Looking for information on the Merit Hodges family. According to his obituary, Merit died in June 1900; prior to his death he had lived with his son Dewight near Camp Douglas. He is buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
