    1. Re: [WIMONROE] Fwd: WI Child Center - Can anyone help with this
    2. Danielle Nauman
    3. Yes, this is the same place. The school is closed down now, since the early 70's. The cemetary is in the middle of the golf course. Recently, a former counselor for the school spearheaded a movement to erect a memorial for the children who died there. Previously they were only identified by numbered gravemarkers. This new memorial may be of interest to you since you have a relative who died there. The site of the school is now mostly a park, the golf course, and the site some of the old buildings are now the city's kindergarten. 2. Danielle Nauman
    3. Hi, I live in Sparta, and also have an ancestor that was sent to the State School. I will try and get in touch with a lady named June Laxton, she was a counselor there, are recently spearheaded a large project to erect a memorial to the children who died while there. Previously, the graves were only marked by numbers. I'm hoping she may be able to point me in the right direction as to where to access these records. The State school was a home for orphaned, poor, neglected children, ect. 3. Hi all, I'm not researching this family as I have no known connections...but I did recognize the name. I have a photo album that I believe belonged to my gg-grandmother who lived in Monroe County, WI. Most of the photos do not contain names on the back. One of them has the studio name "W. H. Drowatzky, Tomah, Wis." at the bottom. Just thought I'd let you know in case anyone finds that this photographer is a relative. -- Bonnie (Gallagher) Gilson, Phoenix, AZ, USA mailto:[email protected] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~bgilson/ ~ RootsWeb Donor ~ > Hi all, check for these on the Monroe county website....Biographies added > > "John Karl and Maria Gess Drowatzky," was posted by Sheridan > Brandon Drowatzky on Fri, 25 Feb 2000 > > "Bernhard Drowatzky," was posted by Sheridan Brandon Drowatzky > on Fri, 25 Feb 2000 > > Thanks Sheridan............ we don't get many bios > Brenda > [email protected] > web owner

Hope it helps! Karla Definitely check with Audrey at the Monroe County History room. Recently, a retired teacher (Julia Middleman, I think her name is) published a historical booklet about the school systems here in the county. I do also know that there is an older historical book about Monroe County, dated in the early 1900's, that contained a section about all the rural schools in the county. I'm sure that the History Room would have both. I've never actually saw Julia's booklet, only read about it in the Sparta paper, and the copy of the book I saw was at the High School Library, but may have been personal property of that librarian, who has since retired. If Audrey doesn't have the book, let me know, and I could probably borrow it from either the high school library (I'm a school employee), or I could give Mrs. Perry a call.
