Is there a printed cemetery index for Leon Cemetery? I have a great grand aunt buried there: Anna Farnham Barnes. I would like to know who else might be buried there. Is there a George BARNES? Any LINK people? Etc.??? If there is an index, I would like to know how to get a copy. Susanne Farnham Hieber
This is an update; I found the cemetery it turned out to be WOODS not roots, and it is located at Valley Junction, not Wyville, and I also had a wonderful person go out to the cemetery and look. I now have the information on CORA MAE (CHRISTIAN )STRAIGHT and LEWIS AMOS STRAIGHT, where they are buried and birthdates and death dates, plus three more STRAIGHTS I didn't even know about. The lady at the records Dept in Sparta was real helpful, am waiting for copy's of certificates, only $7.00 per copy, not bad at all. I want to thank all on the list for the help, If I can help in return please let me know I live in Sac Co., IA would be happy to return the favor. I am researching LEWIS A. SCRUBY and AMELIA MCCRAY, they married in Sparta, Monroe Co. WI in 1883. I don't know if there were any children in this union, but I am told that there was. I have been trying to find them, but haven't had any success, so thought I would throw it out on the list and see if there was someone who could help me out. Later on AMELIA MCCRAY SCRUBY married AUSTIN HALL in 1889 in Sparta, Monroe Co. WI. On the 1900 census of Monroe Co. there is a Claire listed and is older than the years this couple has been married. I think that LEWIS A. SCRUBY married again in 1900. Maybe someone on this list will be able to help me sort all this out. I have ordered films of census records, but haven't been able to come up with any answers. Thank you all for your time. Verna
Judy, Don't get bent out of shape, give your search time. I posted last night to this list and received 4 replies this morning one of which held a wealth of information. Maybe you ought to add a little more info to your quest? Like ? STERNS and ? PETERS and around what time line? Just don't give up, I have had great success with this mailing list. Gordon, The city of Monroe is not in Monroe County, though I don't remember what county it is - probably if you looked it up on a web site that does maps it would show the correct county. If what you are looking for is an address for Monroe County - it is: Monroe County, 112 S. Court St. Sparta WI 54656-1764 phone number is 608-269-8705 I would call ahead and get the price of the specific documents you want copied, it will probably save you time. I wish I lived in Monroe Co. and had access to the information. I am trying to find information to put on the American Local History website and would like to add information to the Rootsweb site for Monroe Co. I am in Winston-Salem NC and our local genealogy group and area historians adopted the Rootsweb and American Local History sites and they have been really great about putting out information. They also sell alot of publications from their site. I have had real good sucess with the County Historian for Monroe County. She has been a great help. She just needs some people to help her. I can bet she has alot of information but not the time to get everything done that she needs to. Also if you want information on your families post the information as many places as you can some one will see it sooner or later. Also remember one person can not do everything but everybody could do at least one thing and together there would be alot. Hi everybody, I found this site on another list. http://www.pastconnect.com/ This site allows people to post information about an item they've lost or found that they can identify with a family name. You can search it by family surname. Some of the items are photographs, books and letters. Check it out. Barb [email protected]
I'm looking for information on or someone who is also researching the BRASHEAR family from Wilton. This would be William and Mary BRASHEAR. Mary's maiden name would have been HARKEY. Hello Ken, Do you really want to rebind that Bible??? If I were you I'd sure think about it some more before I did that. In time you will want the Bible in it's original condition. If you rebind it, it looses it's antique status. I have been there done that, and I am real sorry I did it. How far is Sherman from Sparta? My Stearns and Peters lived around there in the 1800's. Is it in Monroe County? Is anyone research Stearns or Peters? My Thomas Albert Stearns and Mary P Goodwin Stearns raised a family around their. Their daughter Wealthy married Ashley Peters in Sherman. Thanks, Judy
I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I had family that was placed in "State Public School, Sparta, WI" (orphanage) in 1901. I had been searching for a long time trying to find out where these children went. One was an infant and died there, the other was indentured to a farmer. It is my understanding that the school is no longer there, the cemetery is, but you have to go through a golf course to get to it. I haven't been there, but this is what I was told. You can write to the Dept. of Health and Family Services, Madison, Adoption Search Agency and they should be able to help you. I got information that I wanted through them. If this isn't the same place your great great aunt was placed, they still might be able to help you out. Danielle; When you go to check for the other person, please check for Ellen Malone also. She is my great grandmother and I can't find her except in the census and marriage record. In the marriage record she named her parents as having a differnt name then Malone. She was born in 1842 in Wisconsin. I thank you in advance. Dolores [email protected]
