Rollie, Are any of the Counties where there is a Sherman, close to Monroe County. My Ashley Peters and Wealthy Stearns, has a marriage license stating they were of Sherman Wi. I know for a time the Stearns family lived in Sparta. So thought Sherman must not be too far. The marriage date was 1874. I know sometimes the towns become ghost towns, but figured someone must have heard of a Sherman. Thank you so much for the information. At least that gives me more counties to check out. Thanks again, Judy

Hi, With all the discussion of transportation issues, I have a question about a different form of communication: In a book on my wife's ancestor, William Burton (b1799-d 1883) it says: "William was active in business and civic affairs. In company with Daniel Knoop and William Green he built and owned the CASSTOWN PIKE. This highway constructed in 1850 was four miles long and was continued as a toll road for twenty years proving to be very profitable." I'd love to know more about this road. Where was it? How profitable was it? Where is it today? Anyone know anything about the making and end of this road? Thanks, Ken Sajdak Waukesha, WI Researching Burton, Stiehm, Kinglsey, Johnson . . .

The Monroe County Local History Room does have printed indexes to I believe most of the cemetaries in Monroe County. Moreover, they they have alphabetized the names from the cemetary inscriptions and have them in a card file, so that you may search for names from the whole county. Many of the inscriptions were copied years ago, so don't know how current that they are, but it is much more than you can find in many other counties. As was mentioned before, Audrey Johnson at the Local History center, is a very nice and helpful lady. She can be e-mailed at [email protected] John Gamerdinger [email protected] wrote: > Is there a printed cemetery index for Leon Cemetery? I hope I haven't offended anyone, was not bent out of shape, and not really complaining. But it is a little slower list than most I am on. It doesn't seem like a busy list, or everyone is like me and if I don't know the answer, I usually don't respond. I mostly wished the person luck, that they would have better luck than I. I guess I need to get the info on the historian. I just figured some one might have known where Sherman was located. Again, hope I didn't offend anyone. It wasn't meant that way. Judy
Hi, I would really love some help, Thank-you. The information I I have is for my Great Great Grandfather, Edward A. Wood born July 30, 1855 married to Estella R. last name unknown born June 01, 1849. There is no date given for the marriage. They had four children and maybe they were all born in Sparta, WI. how much information do you want to start. I have tried through some of the internet sites but have had no luck so far. I believe they lived there a long time because my Great Grandfather married in Sparta and his children were born there. My Great Grandmother was adopted, so there must have been an orphanage or I remember her talking about her and her mother being at the poor house. I really appreciate the help and will do what I can to help you. Thank-You Brenda Hubl
