Apparently there is some confusion here. I submitted the information on my Retter family connection in response to an inquiry made by a person named Lynn. We will be in Sparta sometime next week and I'll talk with you about it then. I was not seeking Retter information for myself. Thank you. It's called GEN-EVENTS. Topics include "schedules, topics and speakers for genealogy events worldwide including conferences, meetings, conventions, seminars, etc." Tours and family reunions apparently fall under "etc." and occasionally posted. I subscribe just because I find the postings interesting to hear what is going on at events throughout the country and occasionally beyond. For subscription details see http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Miscellaneous/GEN-EVENTS.html Also go to http://lists.rootsweb.com/ and check out the items under "Other" at the bottom of the page. RootsWeb hosts a huge amount of specialty lists that aren't dedicated specifically to surnames or localities. I personally would like to hear occasionally about an honest historical/genealogical tour. It would give me the opportunity to learn about an area. I would also like to hear when societies have conferences, where I could learn how better to do research. These lists, I feel, are for me to learn many things about genealogy & the families and areas I am researching. Good Luck to all in their research this summer. Susanne
Apparently a few people on these mailing lists feel that offering a LEGITIMATE TOUR to NEW ENGLAND for the purposes of GENEALOGICAL & HISTORIC RESEARCH is Spam. Personally I have NEVER heard anything so ridiculous. If GENEALOGICAL & HISTORICAL RESEARCH is NOT the TRUE PURPOSE of these mailing list, then I am sorry we let everyone know this TOUR is available. I also am sorry to hear that the true purpose of these lists is idle chit chat about what family reunion is being held, who went to the dr. yesterday, who's Aunt Sadie just had a wart removed, & who retired from Military Service. ~~ Now, to those of you who TRULY enjoy GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH & HISTORY, & enjoy the idea of having a chance of walking on the same ground your ancestors once walked upon, who truly want a chance to do RESEARCH at the NATIONAL HISTORIC GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY & find the graves of their ancestors, I say this. Please contact us by phone or in an e-mail to us directly at: [email protected] This way we will NOT upset those very very few people who find this TOUR offensive & a huge waste of their gossip time. ~ To those of you who have already SIGNED UP for this TOUR, I say WELCOME ABOARD! ~ For those who want to know what this tour is about: http://www.homestead.com/BarronCountyGenealogical/BarronCoGeneNewEnglandTour.html ~ Thanks! Rosemarie Novak President: Barron County, Wi. Genealogical Society P.S. To those VERY FEW who become upset by this posting, please rest assured, the BARRON COUNTY WI. GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY will not send out another of these NOTICES of GENEALOGICAL TOURS.
The name of my aunt was Amanda Reisenauer. She married Dr. Henry Helmut Retter in Tomah, Monroe, Wisconsin. She died 21 April 1984 in Des Moines, Iowa and he died November 1919 in Necedah, Juneau, Wisconsin. She was born 13 Sept 1893 in Clifton, Monroe, WI and he was born 12 Feb 1892 in Tomah, Monroe, WI. The reason I asked if you might be looking for Retter and not Ritter is because I have Retters in my family tree however only by the marriage of one of my aunts. The address for the Juneau County site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wjuneau/ It's an award winning site. Barbara What was the name of your Aunt and Uncle Retter. Also where did they live? Lynn
Barb Where is the Juneau site? Thanks so much Lynn Looking for Angeline Ritter and Henry Ritter and any other Ritter in the Lacrosse and Sparta areas.
Barb I haven't looked for Ritter spelled Retter yet. But I can't find Angeline or Henry under the Ritter spelling. So I will try the Retter spelling Thanks Lynn
Sorry to butt in here but I am also looking for William Gilbert who lived in Sparta area, Monroe from about 1878 until 1912. If you happen to see that in the index would you contact me please. He was the son in a family of ten children. Sound familiar? No others are listed. Let me know if you need transcripts on Alexander. Monroe County History Museum and Research Room may be of some help and is worth the trip if you can travel to Sparta, Wisconsin <http://www.spartan.org/historyroom/> Good luck with your research. Best regards, David
Lynn..you may want to check Juneau County census records for Ritter. I seem to recall seeing that name. It's all available on-line and is a wonderful web site. Lynn. Regarding Ritters in Monroe County. Are you sure you're looking for Ritters and not Retters? David, Thanks so much for checking for me. This wasn't my Allen, but I will take your advice about the Monroe County History Museum and Research facility on my next trip to WI. Regards, Linda
Hi David, Any mention of Andrew / Andrus DEVINE in your book? Thx, Marion in CA
