I have had to reword and rework the guidelines for the CENSUS-LOOKUP mailing lists and also include subscription instructions. I am sending these below. The lists have been growing like crazy since I created them three days ago and I expect the growth to continue as the word spreads. Please feel free to forward this to anyone you feel may be interested in joining. Of course the more people we have the more help we will be for each other. Please keep in mind that we are only a few days old and if your lookup request is not answered, try again in a week or two. Some of the state lists have already reached over 150 subscribers <G> Others have not been "advertised" as much and have fewer members. Hang in there and don't get discouraged if your not answered right away, these lists will be a great asset to our research after we reach the people and let them know that these lists are available. I am encouraging everyone to send this email to their surname and county mailing lists as well as to our cousins. Finally, If you have the material to help a fellow researcher, please use it. Thanks, Kelly [email protected] (Subscription information at the end of this e-mail) Guidelines for posting to the lists: Established 11 October 2000 EMAIL SUBJECT LINES: COUNTY,YEAR,SURNAME NO FLAMING or you will be unsubbed without notice. By this I mean not only being rude or mean to each other but there will be NO and I do mean NO debating here about the Census Projects. This list is for everyone who wants to research. NO General requests such as "all Smiths in all counties" Be specific, Name the County, Family you are looking for and also the year. Try to supply as much info as possible. LIMIT your requests to ONE PER CENSUS YEAR and SURNAME My Mama taught me that Thank you and Please are always nice too :) A few people have emailed me asking how to sign up for the new lists and what to do. - ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. All lists are [email protected] [email protected] The XX is to be removed and the two letter abbreviation for the state you are looking in added in its place. Examples: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] 2. So, send an email to the one of your choice (make sure to have the state). Put NOTHING in the subject line. In the body of the email write only: subscribe Then send it on :) 3. POSTING to the new census lists: A. Send it to [email protected] (supply the two letter state code for the XX again) B: Subject line MUST have the following: County/Year/Surname Example: Saginaw/1850/Smith C: In the body of the email: List whom you are looking for. Supply as much information as you can. Birthplace, ages, occupation, etc. D: Mail it on! That's it folks :) I hope that helped. I have put the list of states and two letter codes below for you. 3. Did I miss something here? I take it that someone took you to task for posting this. I normally stay out of these things, but I think this is something helpful and it certainly pertains to this list. I've been meaning to check it out but keep forgetting. If you don't feel that you can post it to the list please post it to me at [email protected] . Thank you, Donna > > I guess I didn't feel once a week email would unset anyone and that it would > let the new people to the lists know of the weekly genealogy chat. 3. I want to thank you all for all of the VERY positive responses. Many of the mail list administrators have stated it is all right to continue to post the reminders I am choosing not too. I did not solely join the county mail lists to place a weekly reminder on them. I felt I could contribute to others research not only by having a gathering place (weekly chat), but I have also answered many questions for many different researchers on the various county mail lists. I was hoping to help others. Should anyone need information on the Wisconsin Genealogy weekly chat-I have this information posted on the Waupaca County Website at the following address http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwaupac/index.htm. I will will continue to post chat reminders on the Waupaca County mail list, WauShaOcon Mail List and Wisconsin Mail List. Hope you all break through those brick walls and find those lost ancestors-have a great week! 3. I guess I didn't feel once a week email would unset anyone and that it would let the new people to the lists know of the weekly genealogy chat. So this will be the last notice of the weekly chats. I have repeated the instructions below and feel if anyone is interested in the weekly chat can print this out and refer to it for information. Hope to see you there Sunday night and happy hunting! Here are step by step instructions- 1-Go to the site http://huntsville.about.com/citiestowns/southeastus/huntsville/mpchat.htm 2-Click on Log on to chat in the upper left area of the screen. This takes you to another screen. 3-At this screen type in your name or a name you are going to use in the chat room in the space next to Nick name. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TYPE ANYTHING ELSE IN ANY OF THE OTHER SPACES. Once you have typed in your name, click on OK, connect in the lower left. 4-You are in the chat room. Type your message in the lower left space where it says Type here and then hit enter. A few helpful hints. There is a list on the right side of the screen of all the people who are in the room. To enlarge the screen for easier reading click on the float button in the upper right hand corner. To enlarge the font, also for easier reading, in the space where you type your message type *chat fontsize 14, this will enlarge the font size. 3. I am looking to prove PETER PAUL DRAWVER siblings. I have been told that he had two (2) brothers and two (2) sisters. Christ and Carl (Carl sometimes called "Charles") being the brothers. I have found a Christian Drawer but can not prove he was the brother. Teresa and Anna DRAWER or DRAWVER being the sisters. I just can not find anything on the sisters at all. The name is sometimes spelled Daver and Drauer too! Peter Paul Drawver was born in 1847 to ADAM DRAWER AND EUPHORSENA KNOF listed as parents when he immigrated in 1873. [email protected]

    3. I checked the Pre 1907 WI marriage index today for a marriage record for bothe Orinda and Marietta Stone and for Orinda and Marietta Farnham today without success. I also checked for James Irwin. There were 2 entries for a James Irwin, but they both took place in 1898, one in Fond du Lac County, and one in Milwaukee Co., sorry that I came up with nothing John Gamerdinger ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 30, 2000 7:28 AM Subject: [WIMONROE] Marriage Index > Is there a statewide marriage index for Wisconsin? 3. WIoes have the pre 1907 marriage index but it is not every marriage because it was not a law that all marriages be recorded back then. If I get to the FHC next week will check the index for You. I'm not sure but think that ancestry just recently added this database.
