It doesn't mention Lewis, but perhaps the Seth mentioned is his brother. I am listing the beginning paragraph that mentions the June and Charlotte Young connection. If this is the same Young family you are looking for, let me know and I will scan in the page and email it to you. Carly "Six generations in Monroe County may not be recorded, but is something the children of Bill and Barbara June can lay claim to, along with their cousins, Mike and Jimmy Mercer. Their great-great-great grandparents, John and Charlotte (Warner) June homesteaded 160 acres one mile north of Cataract before the Civil War. He was also a carpenter and built many houses, barns, and a church in that area. Their youngest son, Seth, born April 19, 1859 remained on the farm. He married May McCray of Irish Valley..."

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4EC.2ACE/750.2 Message Board Post: Mr. Wienke's blacksmith shop was located on the southeast corner of the mill and main street intersection. I remember him repairing the tub of my coaster wagon. Harold Grabitske purchased the shop and continued to operate it for many years. During that time a new building was constructed just south of the original and the original building was razed. This building still remains, but Harold moved again from that building to a much larger building to the south again. The river you probably are referring to is the "Little La Crosse River " which runs through Leon and at one time furnished power for a flour mill there. A flood took out the dam years ago and the mill has since been razed. Hope this helps put things in perspective for you.

Surnames: SOWLE MACOMBER MANLEY CURTIS COLSON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4EC.2ACE/744.1 Message Board Post: I was asked the following question after my initial posting. "Which MANLEY family in Monroe Co. is linked to this group?" To which I replied: Irma Agnes SOWLE (daughter of Harvey M. and Edna King Smith Sowle) born abt.1886, m. Cecil MANLEY abt. 1914. Irma died abt. 1914. Irma Agnes was one of fourteen children from this marriage. Brothers and sisters include Claude Raymond, Harold Burdette, Ethel Claire, Edith May, John Cleveland, Hiram Wesson, Lucie Edna, Ernest Kyle, Albert Winifred, Harriet Marguerite, Forest Smith, Florence Fern and Cecil Carl. Harvey M. SOWLE was born Feb. 11, 1846 in Dorset, Vermont, died 1931 in Tomah, married in 1869 in Tomah to Luella M. JACKSON, and in 1878 in Tomah to Edna King SMITH. Harvey M. Sowle was the son of Hiram A. and Harriet E. (COLSON) SOWLE. Hiram A. Sowle was the son of Wesson and Elizabeth (CURTIS) SOWLE. Wesson SOWLE was the son of James and Patience (MACOMBER) SOWLE. Most of the above information is taken from the MONROE COUNTY (Wisconsin) HERITAGE BOOK. I have no further information about Cecil MANLEY. If you connect to this line through Cecil MANLEY, I would like to share information. James and Patience (Macomber) SOWLE are both descended from signers of the Mayflower Compact. James Sowle's line of descent is documented in "Mayflower Families Through Five Generations, Volume Three, George Soule" which I own a copy of. Additionally, James SOWLE fought in the Revolutionary War. I have obtained his service documentation from the National Archives. ______________________________

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4EC.2ACE/752 Message Board Post: I have a photograph of a boy of about 12 years of age, that appears to be from the late 1800s. It is inscribed on the back with "Conant" and "Tomah, Wisconsin". I am not sure whether Conant is the child's surname or a given name. The photography studio is Baumgarten, Tomah, Wis. The photo came from an album that belonged to my grandfather, Charles Griffin St. John. He was born in Lafayette, Monroe County, WI, in 1873, and moved with his family in 1883 to Deuel County, Dakota Territory.

This according to his death certificate and newspaper accounts. He was a foster child of Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Hohn of Leon. His funeral was held at the Leon congregational church with the Rev. Joseph S. Morris officiating. Burial was in the Leon cemetery. The undertaker was J. Jones of Sparta. The church has no record of his burial and I can not find his burial spot. If anyone has any information on this or the location of the former Rueben Hohn farm, or where this drowning may have taken place, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
