The Ruidl's were from Black Forest, Germany, and the DeSmedt's were Belgiums. The oldest Ruidl's I have are Edward and Karl Ruidl. I know nothing more on Karl, but Edward was born 1874, Germany, and died 4 Feb 1941 in St. Louis Co., Mn. Edward married Cathrine (Kathrine) Ann Ziegler (b. 1885, d. 25 Jul 1952 St. Louis Co., Mn). They had about 8 kids -- Dorothy, Michael, Edward 'Eddy', Patrick 'Pat', Loraine, Mary, Alice, and Selina (Sally), I've been told by family members and friends that it was thought that Edward had been briefly in Wisconsin before coming on to Minnesota. It's also believed that he came to Wisconsin straight from Germany. The oldest DeSmedt's I have are: Charles 'Carolus' and his wife Elodie. Charles died mysteriously in a barn fire accident in Belgium before Elodie and her children came over to the U.S. The Children are as follows: Maurice Joseph DeSmedt (b.13 Feb 1894 - Belgium, d. 16 Jun 1975, Duluth, Mn. -- married to Rosie Mosiniak), Aime, Marshall, Ester, Elsie, Mary, Omer, Robert, and Albert. I wish I could verify all this for my family's sake! If anyone can help me I would GREATLY appreciate it! I don't have ANY idea where else to look!

Hello: We have a listing of burials in the Cataract Cemetery. We show a Mary Foster as being buried there. Death date 1922 . Are unsure of which section she is interned but we would suggest starting near the care takers building and working your way west. If I can be of assistance on the 1st of November my address in Gary Rugg, 4127 County Highway I, Sparta. Wisconsin, Sparta address but we live just outside the village of Cataract. Ask directions at store on Highway 27. My ancestors, the LaRue family were in the area by 1856. Many are buried in Dorset Ridge Cemetery, along with the related lines of Abbott, Dartt, Soule, Upham, etc. I am hoping that I can find the church that the LaRue's attended and maybe some baptism records. Can anyone help me with mailing addresses and names of churches from Wilton, especially any with association with Dorset Ridge Cemetery? Thanks for all help. Denise

We just returned from a trip there, we could find the larger Cem right close to Warrens Mills, but not the Wood one. We asked at the little store/tavern on a corner right after you get off the main road that comes out from Tomah. They will give you directions there. It is only 2-3 miles. John Dollison Wood`s son Horace John married my Great Aunt, Pansy Salsbury, in Valley Junction, WI, and their family migrated west to Oregon in the early 1900`s. They have a huge family of descendants here, and were married almost 70 years. In case you need more family info, and do not already know Sheryl Byrd in TX, her e-mail is sabyrdie@msn.com, and has the website, the BYRDHOUSE. She is very pleasant and willing to share info on the family. If she doesn`t answer right away, don`t give up, as she lives with chronic pain and has good days and bad. Good luck and let me know if you find ! what you need. Best Regards, Nancy Gray Schweikert
