    1. [WIMONROE ] CONLAN Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph taken at the Richardson and Foster Studio in Sparta, Wisconsin which appears to have been given as a gift to Mrs. William CONLAN of 287 W. Orie St, Chicago, Illinois. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with the gentleman in the photograph appearing to be in his 40's at the time. I don't know who the man in the photograph might be, but I'm hoping that someone from Mrs. CONLAN's family will be able to identify him since it is likely a family member. If you are a member of this CONLAN Family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [WIMONROE ] Brody Family cemeteries info and obit req
    2. Coleen
    3. Hello, I am new to research in WI, and I would like to ask for some help. First, I would like to know of any Catholic cemeteries in Cashton that date back to the early 1900s. I am looking for the Patrick Brody family. William Brody died in CA, but he was buried in Cashton, WI, according to his very brief death notice. Included in this family is Patrick, Margaret, John, Margaret, William, Michael. Patrick and Margaret were born about 1830 in Ireland. William was born in 1858. John and Margaret were born in NY. Are there any published records on the various cemeteries in Cashton? Second, I would like to request an obit lookup. As I wrote earlier, William died 12/10/1941 in CA. From experience, I have learned that an obit could be in both area papers: place of death and place of burial. Which Catholic churches existed in Cashton between 1870 and 1930? What is the distance between Clinton, WI and Cashton, WI? This family lived in both areas, according to the various census years. Are there any websites I should visit? Any and all help is appreciated. Coleen

However, looking at the birth dates for the children it is more likely that Elizabeth was born to his first wife Christina Noble. The family is all from Canada which again fits cencus info for our Elizabeth. Do you know any thing more about this? Also- I have a Charles Nelson Carver that I am writing to about the Nelson Sr. family as well. He has found three kids I did not prev. have: William A., Levi, and Abigail. The kids I had were Eliphalet, Nephi, Austin, Mary, Amos, Maria C., and Emeline (Emma on possible mar to Stedman Perselles). What do you have on this?

The family moved to Wisconsin sometime in the 1840's. According to my info, they settled in Hebron, Jefferson Co. first, then, later went to Monroe Co. Eliphalet married Matilda Bridget Moody at Hebron in 1853. His Civil War records list him as enlisting from Cold Spring, which is a neighboring township to Hebron in Jefferson Co. Eliphalet and Matilda must have moved their family up to Monroe Co. after the Civil War. In the 1870's they moved the family to Blue Earth Co., Minnesota. Their oldest son Joseph, my great-grandfather, is listed with them in the 1880 census, along with his wife, Amanda Elizabeth Bowen ! from Freeborn County, who he married in 1876, and their first daughter Amanda. Do you know any more about Nelson Carver, his father? Or the rest of the family? What side of the family are you researching?

My gr-gr-grandfather was born in 1805, and an older brother was born in 1800. Maybe the profession was passed on in the family. I agree that the names are confusing. They recycled the same names for multiple generations and as in your case, names them one thing and called them another. There must have been many, many Buss' in that area, probably all related in some way. We'll keep digging and maybe will hit paydirt some day. Thank for contacting me. Marion

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4EC.2ACE/593.3.1.1 Message Board Post: In reply to your query regarding Alfred John Buss, I've been pulling some BMD certificates from the GRO to try and clarify - it doesn't help when someone is registered at birth as "Alfred John", registered at marriage as "John", and registered at death as "Alfred". All part of a great jigsaw, especially when the East Kent "Buss Area" which seems to cover the villages of Pluckley, Egerton, Smarden, Charing etc are all within walking distance and all have their share of people named "John Buss" either in full or part! My g-father Alfred (John) Buss, b. Egerton 1885, was the son of g-gfather (Alfred) John Buss, b. Pluckley 1856 and Caroline Burton b. Charing 1853. (Alfred) John was the son of g-g-gfather John Buss and Louisa (Cox?), so I guess that he would be b. circa 1830. Also saw your reference in a previous posting to a "Pluckley Horse Doctor* in your family - I've a copy of a marriage certicate dated April 27th 1855 between John Buss of Pluckley and Jane Russell of Smarden. John's father is shown as "Thomas Buss, Veterinary Surgeon" - looks like a descendant of your horse doctor? Interestingly, John signed the marriage certificate with "his mark", as illiterate, unusual for the son of a vet.
