I am guessing that as in other areas of Wisconsin, a traveling priest from another parish conducted baptisms, marriages and then would record those in his own parish registers. In the History of St. Mary's Ridge, it mentions that a priest visited St. Mary's Ridge once a month from 1858 to Jan 1866, Father SANNER being one and Father M.M. MARCO is another, until Father S. FLORENTINE was appointed as resident in January 1866. Jay Wilpolt San Diego WILPOLT, HEMSING, LEIS, MARX, BRUEGGEN, BREUGGEMAN,

The following is from Dick Eastman's newsletter, Vol. 9 No. 11 - March 15, 2004. Proposed Legislation Would Wreak Havoc for Genealogists A new bill before the U.S. Congress proposes to overturn one of the most fundamental concepts of the present copyright laws. If passed, facts would become copyrighted for the first time in U.S. history. The Database and Collections of Information Misappropriation Act (HR3261) would make it a crime for anyone to copy and redistribute a substantial portion of data collected by commercial database companies and list publishers. At first, that sounds like a good idea. However, a bit more thought shows that nobody would be able to republish stock quotes, historical health data, sports scores, or voter lists. In fact, a lot of genealogy information could not be republished. If passed, Google and all the other search engines would be crippled, probably driven out of business. These are online databases that collect information, or facts, from other online sites so that the user can quickly find the information they seek. If Google and the others are not allowed to collect facts that are now copyrighted, how will they be able to index the Web for you? Art Brodsky, spokesman for public advocacy group Public Knowledge, says the bill would let anyone drop a fact into a database or a collection of materials and claim monopoly rights to it. This would contradict the core principle of the Copyright Act, which states that mere information and ideas cannot be protected works. Let's say that a commercial genealogy service such as Ancestry.com or OneGreatFamily.com publishes the fact that your great-great-grandparents had a child named John. Once that "fact" has been published by any commercial service, that original publisher would hold the copyright on the fact, and no one else would be allowed to publish it again. The Family History Library, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, Genealogical Publishing Company, and others would be prohibited from publishing that information again in any of their online or printed works. In fact, private individuals would similarly be barred from publishing the information in their own derivative works. If a commercial site publishes a fact about your ancestors, you would not be able to place that fact on your own Web site or in any book or report that you give to others. The language in this proposed legislation contradicts the core principle of the present copyright acts, which state that mere information and ideas cannot be protected works. You can read more about this proposed legislation in Wired News at http://www.wired.com/news/print/0,1294,62500,00.html Connie Cotterill Schumaker Schumaker4@aol.com _________________________________________________________________ Learn how to help protect your privacy and prevent fraud online at Tech Hacks & Scams. http://special.msn.com/msnbc/techsafety.armx --part1_15b.303ff1cf.2d88c449_boundary--

My Ira SMITH was born in PA, but I don't know where, and married a Louisa . Have them in a 1870 census in Monroe Co. Or I think it was 1860. I don't have the papers here today. I can't find him in 1880. Maybe he re-married is what I think. His father was Isaac born in Vermont. They lived in Wellington twp and Sheldon twp then Lafayette, all Monroe. Ira's brothers I have are Luther 1829 N.Y, Harlow 1822 PA, Ira Y. 1831/32, Mary 1837 OH. They were all over. Isacc's wife was Sally from Vermont. Jaimee <ask4sandy@charter.net>

I am reseaching the last name Prielipp in Michigan, Lenawee Co., area right now. There is a hole family of them from Germany, just trying to fit them all together. The census doesn't help because the census taker didn't know how to spell and went by how the name sounded. But of course that is the same with all the census and names. If you get this please answer. I think all Prielipp's in America are related closely, they all seem to come from the same place or general area.

Where do I go now to get a copy of the death certificate? Mmmm...I don't think there is necessarily a death certificate for every death recorded in the "Wisconsin Pre 1907 Daeth Index", especially for those who died prior to 1907. I've been told that "official" death records were not required prior to 1907. Dan +++ It is certainly true that there are not registrations for all deaths prior to 1907, but there is a copy of each indexed record on microfilm. The Wisconsin state vital records system went into effect 1 October 1907 Prior to that counties were responsible for recording vital events and maintained the files. A copy of each record was to be forwarded to the Wisconsin Secretary of State. When the pre-1907 vital records were microfilmed it was these state copies, not the county copies that were filmed. The Index is of the microfilmed records, not the county records. For a variety of reasons, including failure to forward copies to the state and the loss or destruction of some county copies, the two files are not identical. Each may have records the other does not, and because of hand-written copies the information may not be identical. Besides the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services, Vital Records Section, the State Historical Society of Wisconsin has the full microfilm set of pre-1907 vital records. BTW, "pre-1907" means "for events occuring prior to 1 October 1907" even though some events may have been recorded after that date. Thus the pre-1907 films include somewhere between 20 to 30 thousand delayed and affidavit birth registrations, mostly filed from 1940-1942. 1. [WIMONROE ] Updating your email addiress on the Rootsweb Message Boards
    2. MAK - Transcriber
    3. Recently I noticed some emails flying around asking how to update your email address on the Rootsweb Message Boards - There were also responses saying why not to - For more information on how to update: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/addresses/ As MESSAGE BOARD Administrator, here are my thoughts: Updating your email address is NOT hard - and contrary to popular opinion - it is NOT what causes SPAM and HARVESTING. Would you move and hope that mail would get to you somehow? Or think that the postman will go door to door attempting to find you??? Nonsense - while the US Postal system stops forwarding 1st class mail after 6 months, Rootsweb Message Board notifications stop the second you change your email address without updating or your email starts bouncing. To update your email: First, you must be logged into your Rootsweb Account - to do this go to http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=admin.board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.states.wisconsin.counties.monroe A log in screen should appear and ask for your email and password - if it does not, look on the information line (mine is blue), and click on LOG IN - type in your password, and then click on MY PROFILE - and update your information THis does several things - It updates all posts you have made to the Message Boards using that email address - ALL POSTS - that means people can find you because all your posts are up to date. If an email is dead and someone has information for you and posts to your email - you will not get your notifications - Also, you will not be allowed to login under the new email address - then you will have to request from the help desk to change your email to get into your account. This might be what some individuals call the "runaround" - no different than not chaning your address when you move - the letters go to a dead box and it is up to you to fix the problem by contacting the Postal Service. By changing your email on your profile and not sending this is my new email address in the main section of your post, you avoid SPAMMING and HARVESTING for jumk mail - Posting your email in the content area of the Message Board is what causes the excessive SPAMMING and JUNK mail. I get NO junk mail on the account that I use for transcribing - I get a ton on the one that I posted in the main body while doing my own personal genealogy. SO, even after reading this, you decide not to change your email address - what happens? Besides you not getting your norifications? If the posts are on one of my boards and the email is dead or bouncing - I remove your posts, after unsuccessfully attempting to contact you. I do not, nor do the majority of researchers go hunting through to find new emails in posts - you want to make it easy for people to say - HEY - I got some valuable information for you - not to make it impossible or make more work for the administrator. Most people will just move on to doing their research and finding current contacts whose emails work. When the administrator notices individuals changing their email by posting to old posts, some will send an email explaining how to update and then delete the message - other just delete the message. Some days I get lots of emails saying hey this email is not working - do you have a new one? This takes time from my being able to post responses to queries - of course I don't have it - nor have the time to try to find it. The system was set=up so each person could update all their posts in ONE change. By keeping your email up to date - everyone is happy, especially getting a response to a post that is five years old - long after giving up hope of ever finding that ancestors roots. (VBG) Remember, It is up to each individual to keep their emails updated - Again, More information can be found on this topic at: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/addresses/ I hope this clears up the mystery of updaing emails - OH, if you do find a dead email, instead of sending an email to the administrator asking for a current email - you can normally find it by simply clicking on Advanced search, type in the authors name - you will get all the messages which they have written - go to the most current - click on print message and there you will see their email address - check it against the dead one - if it is different - R/S MAK ===== MAKTranscriber - http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwood http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiportag http://www.rootsweb.com/~wimonroe __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
